I don’t see the kids being taken away honestly. I expect they’ll be forced to get clean to keep the kids.

The problem is Nick will have people forever trying to dob him to get the kids removed.

And Nick’s not the type of person to be able to let people do that to him and not let him move on. Most sane people would crack with a fraction of the shit he gets. And Nick is not sane.
