Nintendo Switch (Currently Plagued) - Here we shit post about the new Nintendo console, The Switch

since the paper mario thread got featured and is now just the dumping ground for unfunny a&n Posting Addicts who know literally nothing about the game and just want to attention whore about the one-off purple ghost blob character's genitals, i'll post some of my thoughts here instead. thanks jannies

I fucking hate this and so many other games being held prisoner on the Switch. It's basically the perfect example of why anyone who tells you that framerate and performance don't matter in an RPG and/or Menu Game is a complete submental. Playing the remake after spending some time with the Dolphin version is like going from a McMonster Gaming Machine with rainbow LEDs to a chinkware laptop stuffed with the newest version of Windows; there are constant microdelays after more inputs than not, which simply are not a factor in the Gamecube game. It's resulted in misclicked abilities for me, because the game just won't fucking let me press up or down before it's reaaaallllly sure that it's finished resolving whatever animation is currently playing.

I know my webm-fu isn't good. The compression actually makes the disparity between the two noticeably less pronounced. So does being shrunken down; I recommend blowing these up a bit if you're clicking.

I feel like I'm constantly waiting on the game for the most basic of basic inputs. I'm waiting when I'm selecting anything. During dialogue, I'm waiting before I can advance it. I'm waiting when I level up. In Gamecube, you can mash after you win a fight to get through the results more quickly. Not in this one, and there's often MORE to sit through in the results now. The Gamecube version not only feels, but looks markedly better in motion purely by virtue of just how much smoother it is, and I think that's a massive shame because I love all the extra touches in animations and personality in the new one.

Maybe it'll run better after an update drops. Or on the Switch 2. So fucking stupid. If not, what a waste of potential and effort. I can't be fucked to play more with the performance being as it is because I just don't enjoy...looking....at the game...while I'm playing it. Seeing this kind of shit right after Unicorn Overlord at 60 FPS just a few months ago is so disappointing, and people who still buy Zeldas and Pokemons will cope at you that it's not a big deal.

I'd also like to bitch about some casualization. In Paper goddamn Mario. I played up to right before Hooktail when you unlock the R ability thing, because that's the only prerequisite for getting into the Pit of 100 Trials. For those who don't know, that's an optional dungeon that gets progressively harder than anything in the main game and contains a superboss. In Gamecube, you have to beat it all in one go and if you die, you have to start all over. In Switch, if you die, you can just try again and continue from right where you died, effectively removing any of the stakes and challenge. What's the fucking POINT, then? Again. So disappointing.

@mrs thickness if it makes you feel better, dataminers have already found a 4K mode in the game so it will hopefully run less shittily on Switch 2.

edit: Ha, thirty pages of A&N posters trying to discuss Paper Mario, not gonna be reading that shit. I bet Null horribly mis-explains the situation in his fake-gay lispy accent next MATI too.

I actually avoided looking at videos of the game in general, including the trailers. So... There's a detail that really sticks out when I looked at your videos, especially when paired with your complaints: This is built on Origami King.

Recycled assets and all that. I get the feeling it inherited the general handling as well.

From what little launch day footage I’ve seen, the animations are so slow. The screen when you win a battle is slow. The fade in/out of black between loading zones is slow. Everything in the Gamecube version felt so snappy and this version just drags on.
The lack of "snappy" behavior was visible (and audible) in the trailers. Very sad.

The audio mixing is infuriating. All of the new tracks are a muddy mess with poor equalization. The old stuff sounds great by comparison.

Recently finished Earth Defense Force World Brothers 2 on Switch.
Overall it's an improvement over its predecessor: more enemies, more missions (104 in total vs 60), NPC allies, a better UI in the character/equipment selection screen, etc.
I do hope they plan on patching the screen effects destroying the framerate whenever you get hit by a poison attack from a Deathstalker (giant scorpions which are a rather common enemy) or Scylla (fishmen), regardless of the number of enemies present on screen or the field map you're standing on. It's the biggest flaw of the Switch port imo.

There is a planned mission pack DLC later this year for Japan, and the game's global release is set for September 26th.

i hate how California always get's the exclusive best shit when it comes to videogames. "the best" arcades, "the best" tournaments and gaming scene, etc... it's like they seem to forget there's 49 other states that exist
Your punishment for not living in the most diverse and inclusive state around!
