Now I’m not a coke expert, but AFAIK the closer you get to the source/importer, the more likely it is that your coke will be these hard bricks of high purity cocaine, that need to be grinded and are usually cut by dealers.

I assume paying bond get's you free of conditions like random testing, freedom to travel, not to worry about who may have guns around you.... you go back to "normal" and try not to break law just like any normal human at any given time. Not sure he'll lose right to own weapons on charge alone or he loses it after he gets convicted. Drinking is not illegal so he should be fine continuing with that, drugs are fine as long as he doesn't get busted again. They just hold you by the money leash.
