the fact that he was a complete piece of shit to the police knowing full well it was 100% his fault, the angry face on his mug shot and his shit face and demeanor during his hearing say everything. he WILL spin this as a "fuck the police, never trust the cops" thing, if his audience gives him shit he will probably only concede on the kid endangerment
I assume that the mandatory reporting of child abuse is just the idea of "using drugs when you have kids to take care of". Being a bad parent isn't illegal, though. My parents were drunk all the time. Is that significantly less bad than if it had been cocaine? I don't know.
We don't have the details of this report that brought about the search, right? because as far as I can tell, even if it's the danger to the kids that ostensibly made it necessary, it was a search for drugs.
And I know I may be an outlier here, but I think that's mostly bullshit. Rekieta [both of 'em] deserve all the criticism they get (more or less) for being bad parents, Nick especially for being bad and she for allowing him to, but as far as I'm concerned, his door got busted down for 27g of cocaine. I would throw the warrant to the ground as well, or at least consider doing so, as a symbolic gesture.
He was always the libertine sort of libertarian; we know he wasn't above this and had scorn for the authorities in this area.
BUUUUUT even if we consider the best-case scenario, that he never actually drove drunk with the kids, that all cocaine use was away from the kids, and that rather implausible theoretical case where the kids barely realized how fucked up their parents were... Rekieta
is extra blame-worthy for not paying attention to the relevant laws of how much cocaine would put his family in serious jeopardy. Obviously, as a lawyer, it makes it look so much more stupid.
If his actions lead to one or both parents being locked away for years, that's 100% on him, don't get me wrong.
But fuck the government beating down doors over this shit, too.
Again, being a bad parent isn't against the law. Imagine how many millions more kids would grow up without any if that were the case...
