It's probably been mentioned before in the thread that Nicks complaining about his church can be seen in a new light, as in there was some instituion or group that were questioning his parenting. His decision (and it's fairly clear it was his decision) to homeschool their children also removed another insitution from that might have cramped his style.

Incidentally I have a lot of sympathy for Kayla, she's financially dependent on Nick, probably socially dependent on him as well. Nick is a loudmouth and obviously used to getting his own way, that she just went along with it, well maybe that shows a weakness of character but the real sin is his.
