I think the one true passion in Nick's life has been his ability to gaslight and lie to people. If you look at his progression from Nick appearing on Juju's podcast to current dumpster fire, he's been honing and practicing that skill non stop. I think that's what drew him to practicing law in the first place. A job requirement where skillful lying and manipulation is an essential tool.

What I'm getting at, is the drugs and alcohol have really brought the monster that has always been, forward. He's always had psychopathic tendencies but now he's speed running checking off the requirement list.

The 2nd degree felony drug charge is a presumptive stayed sentence according to MN sentencing guidelines, unless he has an extensive criminal history.

I am pretty sure that he would have a 0 for criminal history score. I'm not the most familiar with his past but I think I heard that his only prior would be a reckless driving charge which isn't even listed as having a severity level.

The other charges are gross misdemeanors that can be less than a year in jail or a fine.

Unless he really fucks up probation or pre-sentencing he likely will not serve time, he will get fines and probation, from what I have read above and seen on youtube drug court.
I can see getting time is if he acts like a total lunatic in court going pro-se and refusing to admit the slightest bit of accountability and showing no desire to correct his behavior, and the judge sentences him for one of the misdemeanors.
I'm sure libertarian Rackets disagrees but I really don't see the courts as trying to lock up drug users in MN especially if they have kids, I think he will get every opportunity to avoid that.

Some people have written up long and very convincing posts here about how "give them nothing" is an efficient way to deal with the legal system (although they also condemned Nick's apparent ruthlessly pragmatic choices in the same post). However, I think the pattern of behavior points more to an inability to admit fault than a ruthless pragmatism.

As one of the poeple who wrote a post like that I have to say that I think you are correct. Despite discussing at length how selfish and egotistical Nick is and how he is unable to admit fault, I looked at that from my own perspective and how I would have acted. Having them kick in the door on my kids would have been too much for me. I fucked up, it's time for me to nut up. I'm the reason we're in this mess. As a lolyer Nick knows he isn't facing 25 years. He's the guy who used to get clients to plea out on shit like this.
