Viva Frei and Barnes defending Nick really surprised and dissapointed me. Especially Viva Frei characterizing everyone criticizing Nick as kicking a poor man when he's down. I thought them both being parents would've seen the urgency in light of the severe child neglect but I guess youtubers always have to circle the wagon if one of them gets hold to account for something.
Look, lawtube knows what they are doing. They treat the legal system as a cynical and sterile machine. They equivocate Nick's potential punishment with the actual moral weight of his transgressions. They refuse to acknowledge Nick's behavior for what is really is: the active destruction of his marriage and family. They know Nick will get a slap on the wrist for his charges and they will use that punishment as retroactive vindication.
See you guys, it's no big deal, stayed sentence and probation. Nick's not such a bad guy after all, right? After the case is over Nick becomes a hot guest to have on stream. In fact, if this case could be fought as being police or government overreach then they are free to mine content and grift over it.
They refuse to acknowledge the real issue. Nick's actions are disgusting. We know about the coke, we know about the guns, we know how he treats his wife, we can only speculate what effect that has had on his children and the community. Everyone in this thread already knows whatever punishment Nick gets over this won't be enough. Real justice won't be done. The kind of damage children suffer by being abused or neglected cannot be reversed, only mitigated. What kind of punishment is trying to force him to stay sober? "Hey kids, I know your dad would rather drink and do blow that pay attention to you, but we're gonna try to make him be normal!" Nick already resents his children for curbing his devotion to drink and drug, this would probably only make it worse. The only real reparations that can be made is for Nick to show genuine humility and make honest attempts to repair his relationships with his family and friends. As people who have been watching Nick for a long time and observing his behavior, we understand that this scenario profoundly unrealistic.
If any lawtuber or sympathizer dares venture into this thread, I just want to know "What is your highest priority?" Nick isn't your client. Who cares if he has legal standing to fight a warrant or gun charge or whatever. You have no obligation to sweep for him, so your insistence on defending him just calls your integrity into question. If I had to guess, Nick's deviant behavior is not uncommon in the legal profession. All of these lawyers probably have deeper sympathies than we realize as outsiders. They see their legal colleagues abuse drugs and they see their clients prosecuted for the same behavior. They probably have downplayed things like drug abuse or lax gun safety because they are either guilty of similar behavior or know someone who is. However, most people in this thread are upset for other reasons that go beyond what laws may have been broken.
As a final thought, we should be looking for any lawtubers who have broken the mold to denounce Nick's behavior. It's just as important to acknowledge anyone who is willing to speak against him, especially his former associates.
