TGWTG "Nostalgia Critic" / Doug Walker, Rob Walker, Mike Michaud, Mike Ellis, Holly Christine Brown, et al - The Incompetent Predator-Protecting Upper Management of Channel Awesome, Doug Still Not That Funny

The fact his former CA wagies have proven themselves not only far more cancerous and cringe in their cawntent and cawnduct than he ever was, but also as genuinely disgusting people in their own right has made it a whole lot easier to forgive a guy whose worst crimes are intentionally hyperbolic movie reviews of questionable quality and inept business management
I don't won't to give Doug too much leeway. Despite his detractors being far worst human beings, he still did do some terrible things. You have to remember the whole Indiegogo campaign. As far as I know, he has never addressed it. The thing is 100% a scam at this point, and unlike other things Doug did have culpability in it.

If you believe so, then so be it. I think the consensus is that it was very poorly managed and done, that or it was done in the hands of incompetent people.

At the same time, if memory serves a good amount of the promised shows never aired, but any accusations of ulterior motives or crimes or intent to pull a scheme were only ever from folks who were unreliable narrators with an ax to grind, or folks who’d assume we’d look at the finished product, and then the money raised, and then go “wow, this looks cheap”, which isn’t really the smoking gun you’d think it is.

The problem is we have more than enough evidence outside of accusations from any bitter ex-employees. From the very nature of what they said they were going to do with the campaign, they failed to deliver. They promised to use the money to fund three shows with around fifty episodes each. It took us over a year later to get one show, and we only got a few episodes of it.

You could also visibly see in the video for the campaign that they already had all the props and set pieces that they later used for those few episodes. So what exactly did the funds from the campaign end up being used to purchase?

It may not be something that they are can be in trouble for legally. But at the end of the day Channel Awesome raised nearly $90,000 from their fans and all evidence presented shows they did not use it for what they said they would. Doug was 100% involved in it and there is no way of arguing differently.

It would be wrong to say he just pocketed the money, because at the end of the day we have no evidence for what he actually did with it. But money was raised and was very obviously not used for what it was said to be used for.

Point and laugh.

If there’s something all channel awesome people, including Doug, have in common is that they were all arrogant enough to think their internet reviews phase was just a stepping stone for success.

In reality they all peaked as internet reviewers. But Doug stands up above the rest because he isn’t bitter and continues to be a chill guy that can laugh at himself. That I respect.

Doug is even important enough to get cartoon and anime cameos. He might not have become a Hollywood big name as he wanted, but there’s no doubt he is successful.

Atleast he didn't go the Rooster Teeth route and pretend he was something he wasn't, alienate his own audience and slowly die.

When you put it that way, yeah you can’t really defend CA. I’ve just grown accustomed to hearing it was worse than what it really was and a thing that needed to be used to cancel Doug.

Todd and Phelous? What have they done
Todd and Phelous seem like the only other producers who I can call successful. Todd for still maintaining good views and even occasionally hitting 1 million views for a video while Phelous not as successful as Doug just stays out of drama except if he's dragged into it by Lupa.

The bar is very low for someone to be considered successful from the Channel Awesome days

Staying out of drama is not what I call success. Todd yes because he's found a mainstream audience on YouTube and mingles with the Nebula/BreadTube community. Whatever your feelings towards them, it's basically a level of success. Phelous has been doing....the same thing he's always been doing for 10 years with nothing changing? Latza carved out a better career than Phelous

I mean I can get it if you were referring to Angry Joe, Todd, Lindsay, or hell even Phelous to some extent. But all?!

Really the only person you could point to as breaking out beyond Doug would be Ellis but that's really only if you ignore the fact her books fucking bombed and her own audience turned on her after putting out a super mild take on Raya.
