If it were anyone else sure I wouldn't expect them to get personal, but Rekieta is a colleague, and acquaintance or friend of some of them. Just focusing on the legal aspects of his case is weak when many of them have encouraged or shown a blind eye to his behaviour and so are involved (however small) in his downfall. It gives the appearance of washing their hands of the matter. This is a guy who made most of their careers and who some have spent time with in-person, and all they can say is "well ackshually the warrant was incorrect neuhuhhh
