So they get at their most optimistic 5 months of Trump in jail.

What are the practical effects of this? He is still eligible to be president, he is still on the ballot, he now can really tail on the whole "I am being persecuted" angel, and he is unable to personally campaign.

The only real gain for the Democrats is the last bit and Trump gains as well.
The longer he's off the campaign trail the longer they can push the idea that it's illegal for him to be in office.
Most people aren't keeping up closely and may not be aware that they can still vote for Trump if he's in jail. The Democrats may try to push that misunderstanding hard.
The DNC is also banking on the Washington Generals RNC choosing not to nominate him if he's in jail because they are fucking addicted to losing with dignity of the idea of decorum.

It allows the TV people to repeatedly say Trump is a convicted felon, which the AWFLs will parrot all the way to Election Day.

Now lolbertarians want gorldick and love feral niggers wtf happened. They were a little weird but not like this not like this
Lots of weirdos flooded in during the Ron Paul 2008 campaign. Saw lots of freaks just like Chase Oliver drone on obsessively about Ron Paul while I was on college campus. They confuse being a libertarian with being a libertine. I think libertarians were so desperate to move on from the Von Mises cranks who occasionally had ties to far right groups, neoconfederates, etc. that they were too welcoming to these freaks and just like any other institution with progressives, once they get in you can’t get them out unless you make active efforts to remove them as they won’t go away on their own.

How dare you insult the Faggotry Flag!

Even the charges are gay. "Felony Count of Criminal Mischief" sounds so fucking limp wristed. There is no crime here.
This pisses me off. Paint a mural on the STREET and get pissed when someone leaves tire marks on it. I recall at least once that it was at least possibly an accident, just a tire chirp, and Cali put the entire police force on finding the blasphemers.

I was at some protests in 2020 and the city had a copy of the big BLM mural from DC (just yellow 'Black Lives Matter' right on the driving surface) and they were blocking the mural so you couldn't drive on it, removing a driving lane downtown. What's worse is I came back when there wasn't an event and it was still blocked off. It was like protestors blocking streets, but the government was doing it.

I still say as the Tea Party gained momentum (the actual grassroots ones that were more mad about RINOs than they were about Obama's Gay Muslim Birth Certificate From Kenya) it pulled away a lot of the "Love me guns, love me weed, `ate taxes, simple as" potsmoking independent contractor demographic from LP to more mainline GOP, then Trumpism grabbed a lot more, which eliminated a LOT of the rational-ish libertarians

His Daughter-in-Law runs the RNC. If they don't nominate Trump, then he failed again at trust. What I'm saying is that its a foregone conclusion Trump will be the RNC's pick.

I was mostly libertarian way back when. I liked guns, smoking weed, occidental lifestyles, in my 20s was sadly pretty close to being a euphoric atheist. Then it was current year, I saw all the invader-porn coming out of Europe set to ominous music on youtube, at the same time a new presidential candidate came around promising "not here!", at the same time degenerates also started accelerating a lot their takeover of the internet. I think as a libertarian I was supposed to be happy about those things.

But Patrick Little seemed like a longshot (and ever so slightly cringe) so I've been all in for Trump.

California launching pilot program to charge drivers for miles driven

It could replace the gasoline tax

California is the nation's biggest EV market by a wide margin, and the relatively high percentage of battery-powered cars is digging a hole in the state's budget because it relies on revenue from its gasoline tax to fund road maintenance. Lawmakers want to replace the gasoline tax with a new mileage-based tax to offset the loss, and they plan to begin testing this system by launching a pilot program in August 202

They confuse being a libertarian with being a libertine.
Much as they might try to deny it, Libertarians are ultimately sons of the anarchist left, with all of the connotations of libertine hedonism and rejection of the social order that entails. Right-libertarians have tried to structure a philosophy that repudiates this connection, leaning heavily into contracts and mutual non-aggression as the governing aspects, but the seeds of anarchy always exist beneath the surface, and the movement always attracts the sort of people would be anarchists in any other society. Whence the obsession with weed and child porn.

Bobby DeNiro giving a wonderful rambling statement in New York, I'm very vooting for Joe now. We gotta save New York City, our democracy, our country, the earth itself from literally being destroyed by Donald Trump. Who is a clown like the delightful weirdos on New York's streets, except he's very bad. And he doesn't even deserve to set foot in the city he was born in. Downtown New York is DeNiro's hood you know that nigga?

At this point I am not sure what putting him in jail would actually do. Hell, I am not even sure the Democrats know what they want it to do. Lets say it works, things wrap up, Trump immediately goes to jail... sometime around the end of June. Earliest possible time.

And the thing is... I honestly am not seeing it as that big of a gain for them. Trump is already well known and the only thing his appearances are doing is driving enthusiasm. Which him being arrested does on its own.

I am somewhat convinced that the arresting him truly is not the point and all they want to do is keep him off the campaign trail as much as possible. Or that if there was a point it has long since been superseded by events and now its all just running on momentum.
Can they even put him in jail? How's that going to work with his Secret Service detail? You've got two government agencies with conflicting interests
It allows the TV people to repeatedly say Trump is a convicted felon, which the AWFLs will parrot all the way to Election Day.
That's basically all they want: the headlines. It doesn't matter to them that they're just increasingly preaching to the converted.
Most people aren't keeping up closely and may not be aware that they can still vote for Trump if he's in jail. The Democrats may try to push that misunderstanding hard.
Might backfire on them. The Democrat base is not exactly keen on Paedo Joe. If they think the election is a sure thing, they might not bother to turn up for him

Reactions: The Nothingness
Well the RINO-MAGA schism in the Republican Party continues with the Gonzales-Herrera runoff today. Any Texas-based Kiwis know the chances of Herrera knocking off the incumbent?

I guess the Security Detail would keep doing their thing and have eyes on him at all times. But wasn't Congress trying to pass that law to allow them to revoke the security detail from "disgraced" presidents? Seems like the plan would really be to just do that.

The Biden Harris team officially had Robert Deniro, the rich kid larping as a hick Fanone, and the black cop from the DC Capitol police out in front of the courthouse, and someone said it made Rudy's plant store speech 4 years ago look professional by comparison.

Not gonna lie, my mind immediately flashed back to this. Same energy tbh.

“U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon on Tuesday denied a gag order request submitted by special counsel Jack Smith in former President Donald Trump’s classified documents case.

Over the past weekend, Mr. Smith’s team asked Judge Cannon to impose a gag order after President Trump had claimed that recently released discovery documents showed that the FBI agents were armed and were prepared to shoot him during the August 2022 search of his Mar-a-Lago property. The FBI last week, however, disputed those claims and said the documents merely suggested the agents were following bureau rules around search warrants.

In a paperless order, Judge Cannon denied Mr. Smith’s request without prejudice because, according to her, it is “wholly lacking in substance and professional courtesy.” She added that the special counsel’s motion also “did not adhere to ... basic requirements” and that “any future, non-emergency motion brought in this case—whether on the topic of release conditions or anything else—shall not be filed absent meaningful, timely, and professional conferral.

“Sufficient time needs to be afforded to permit reasonable evaluation of the requested relief by opposing counsel and to allow for adequate follow-up discussion as necessary about the specific factual and legal basis underlying the motion,” Judge Cannon added.”
