The rest range from good to dogshit, or I haven't played them. 3 is good too but needlessly difficult so 1 is a better experience overall. Circle of the Moon and Aria are also quite good as far as the Metroid style goes. 4 is good but overrated as shit.

If anybody hasn't played a bulk of these games, don't want to emulate, and have a modern console like a PS4 or PS5, I would highly suggest getting:

Castlevania Requiem
Castlevania Advance Collection

As they are frequently on sale and contain a majority of the good shit. Even tho there's an ass load of CV games, these 3 collections will cover most, if not all, of the must plays.

Mike Matei life, while interesting, was cut short of his true potential by forever babysitting James' autistic ass. Mike actually liked video games. It's clear AVGN character is based on Mike. Gets kicked out of the best friend role in the AVGN movie because of James' feminist wife. Years after the AVGN movie, it was Mike that made sure James got to work on time. After Mike no longer worked for cineamasscre James sold the business to slobs and ended up doing more work than the slobs. Even in James' own tell-all book-he admits Mike Matei kept him out of trouble in college after being expelled. Mike Matei could’ve and maybe should of been the AVGN character to begin with.

We've already been over this like a dozen times. Mike doesn't have the charisma or charm to be the nerd. AVGN would never have taken off with Mike as the nerd. James might be a sperg but he's a likable one or at least he used to be. Mike is just a sperg sperg. Like socially retarded and freakish as evidenced in his solo videos. It's why so few people actually watch Mike's streams.

A streamer I watch did a special show earlier this month where he reflected back on his earliest work as it was now 20 years old too. While reading some of his old pieces people started asking him about AVGN and he had to remind them that at the time when he posted his first article AVGN wouldn't exist for another couple of weeks, so he wasn't "copying" The Nerd by being outrageous and irreverent. It was just the style at the time. AVGN gets a lot of credit for trailblazing the "angry reviewer" trope but I feel like in a sense perhaps James took cues from content creators who came before him, namely Seanbaby.

the first AVGN video Simon’s quest made before YouTube even existed then mike encouraged him to make more of them. I think James was the trailblazer for the angry video game review template.

edit: though it’s likely angry/sarcastic reviewing itself as a concept existed since forever, since product reviews were even a thing.

I liked those vids before it was cool to like them! Watching a probably inebriated or sleep deprived mike doing elmo violence type ranting over interspersed sesame street footage is that special kind of shitty where it loops back around to being perfect. It was bad the second screenwave got their grubby hands on it. I pirated the AVGN movie when it came out and thought it was good, because i was a retarded 13 year old who thought swearing was kewl. Back in 2021 i purchased the bluray. That was a mistake, not even nostalgia could help blind me from how awful it is. I even paid $2 for the AVGN game on PS4. It's dogshit as well.

I dont have a good source for it other than r/TheCinemassacreTruth and Scotts merch being on ScreenWaves website. Which i don't have a link for unfortunately because it was a limited time charity event and when it sold out it got removed. His video announcing the event was also removed or privated because the event was done.

The slobs were involved long before that, just not publicly. We don't know when exactly screenwave started but it was sometime during the movie because all of the blurays of the movie are distributed by screenwave. If i remember correctly the slobs were hired on to help him with nerd videos while he was working on the movie.

Yes, Hollywood broke James because like a fucking retard he spent all the gofundme money traveling between his house and Hollywood. He could have saved money by filming it in his home town. He mixed and mastered the audio in his basement because he ran out of money, no surprise it's bad. It's mixed like a youtube video and not like an actual movie. He also didn't finish all of the movie shooting in Hollywood and ran out of money so some shots were filmed in his basement. He went about it all wrong.

According to his biography he has Asperger's or Autism. It was hard to read. If you haven't read it yet. I wouldn't, he didn't have an editor look at it. It's filled with weird spelling mistakes and punctuation, and is hard to follow. I had to get a summary from the subreddit.

Scott made a channel update video a while ago explaining how he personally trained some friends of his to help edit his videos. They've been featured in his videos for years before that, so there's likely no screenwave affiliation there.

I'm not even sure what screenwave does anymore since they were effectively shelved by Cinemassacre. Likely just doing the legwork of securing sponsors for the channels they still have under contract and taking their cut.

Probably a little late here but.... yeah, I always liked Bloodlines more than CV4.

For me a big problem with CV4 is it feels like it overstays its welcome. By the time you get to the castle, I'm ready for it to be over. Bloodlines is the perfect length, even accounting for it doing the "do two loops to see extended cutscenes" thing.

Sigh..... I'm mixed. I hope AVGN retires but I also hope he doesn't. It would feel like Youtube is dying if AVGN left.
