I've been on a classic Konami kick in recent times and I'd say it'd be hard for me to pick one over the other, Chronicles is definitely the more faithful remake and overall more balanced game. But I'll never not love that the directional whip in SC4 it's just so much fun to use. Rondo is of course the best Classicvania but I've never heard a single person argue otherwise. After watching the newest AVGN (the first new episode I've seen in two years I think) I got inspired to play Castlevania Chronicles (Original Mode, not pants pissing pussy mode like James played) since it's one of the few I never played and god damn, James is a fool. It kicks ass and it was a real treat because it's not every day you get to play a "new" Castlevania game. The OG mode of Castlevania Chronicles blows SC4 out of the water as a remake of the first game. As much as I love the graphics of SC4, CC takes the cake here, it's much more faithful to the NES game visually than SC4 was while still changing it up just enough that it's a new experience. This goes for the level design as well, faithful but changed just enough. The only thing I think SC4 did better was the music, still one of my favorite soundtracks. Overall Castlevania Chronicles is a lot of fun and it's hard as nails, which for a Castlevania game is a great thing. The fact that James refused to even try it out of fear that it was too hard makes me like it even more. As if James even played any of the games in the first place.
James should stop reviewing video games.
Anyway the Parodius games are now my current favorite, the amazing sprite work and comedic tone in general work so well with Shoot Em Ups. Wayforward actually delivered a really solid Contra game recently I hope Konami has them make a new Parodius, a Gradius 6 is more likely and I'd enjoy that too but how many Shoot Em Ups have Vegas Showgirls as a boss?
I really went off topic. I'm surprised Ryan Schott has seemingly gone quiet on social media. Might win the award for least obnoxious troon.
