Nothing really happens this chapter. Just some exposition and Reaction Piece. Also Stussy being an idiot and wanting to free Kaku when the Strawhats letting Lucci roam free is why she's injured.

that last page was interesting for sure whatever the roger pirates know is either so dumb it makes them laugh to think about it or so terrifying their fear turns to laughter. it also seems that imu has the last ancient weapon and thats what is being used to destroy islands. not a devil fruit power or anything like that.

Reading the chapter, this Vegapunk broadcast ends in one of two ways:

1. It’s like Ohara where the big truth is about to be revealed, but it cuts cut off like how O’Hara had a guy shot before saying the name of the old kingdom.

2. We get something like Whitebeard’s speech at Marineford where we learn not only of some big aspect of the world like The One Piece being real, but also that Roger is waiting for somebody with the weight of the world on their soldiers, looking to challenge the government to a fight, ready to shake the world to its foundations…with not so subtle nudges that this individual is Luffy (who won’t respond to this because reasons.)

Could be either of these scenarios honestly. I’m hoping for 2.

Uranus is what destroyed Lulusia. Vegapunk all but said it in his cryptic way.

Also, I think Roger and company had something dumb that made them laugh considering Roger called what he found “a funny story” rather than fear driving them crazy laughing like what we see Doflamingo doing in jail.

Re: Nothing Happened.

Nothing bombastic happened, but we have quite a few little details that will matter.

We get confirmation that it was not the Mother Flame that causes the sea rising and that it was the weapon.
Vegapunk(prime) DID NOT provide the Flame to the Celestial Dragons, it was stolen by Greed.
I think we have complicit confirmation that Imu is Immortal, the panel with "No one from back then is even alive" is too on the nose.
I think we got foreshadowing that Sengoku is in on the secret, I don't recall any joke moments where he is being a glutton and he is reacting similarly to Rayleigh.

Re : Laughing

I think part of why Gol and Crew were laughing because the first people to arrive and see the story of Joyboy and the history of the world were being led by someone who was dying so they couldn't actually do anything about it. Going to Lodestar island finding out there is something beyond that..recruiting Oden and going through it all again so that Oden could translate the Poneglyphs. Oden leaving again while Wano suffered...It was all kind of for nothing in a way.

The issue with that “all for nothing” thinking is that Roger’s reaction didn’t seem like a guy realizing it was all for nothing. He certainly wouldn’t go “what a funny story!” ,he wouldn’t talk about wanting to be in Joy Boy’s era, and I think he wouldn’t call the place Laugh Tale either. There has been nothing to suggest that Roger and his crew should have any ill will towards what they found, with their only feelings being “these people want to find it, best not to spoil anything. It’s more fun that way.”

Yeah, but I also can't square the circle that Roger is laughing at information that tells him that the world is Ruled by an Immortal Tyrant who would drown everyone and everything out of what seems to be sheer spite.

Likely because that’s either not what’s happening or that happened after the glyphs were made so Roger et al straight up don’t know.

idn’t they recruit Oden just because he could read the poneglyphs? And wasn’t it said that Roger and his crew was able to connect everything together?
Yes, Roger and crew go to Lodestar Island, which was at the time thought to be the end of the grand line..puzzled out that there was something connecting Loadstar Island and Poneglyphs (And were the first to make this connection because of something Rock's brought up during that fight) but couldn't do anything with it until Oden came along to actually read the Poneglyphs.

usopp died
Usopp can't die, He is God so he just decided to go home.

Welp biggest takeaway is that the girl in the picture is another bad case of "Nami face syndrome" or Vivi will be a lot more relevant than I expected in the endgame.

I do find it funny that a couple of days ago I was discussing One Piece with a buddy and he was wondering why Roger who seems like such a freedom loving rebel did nothing outside of starting the age of pirates with the promise of the One Piece. It's good to see that Oda is thinking about this, but it's also a mystery that can singlehandedly ruin the whole series if it's not convincing.

On other topics, I started rereading One Pîece from late Drum kingdom onward.

Sooooo

Alabasta is still peak. I really want to see more of Crocodile and the Cross Guild in general.

Jaya. The Bellamy punch is still incredibly satisfying, the first interaction with Blackbeard is great and I'm fascinated by how Luffy hated his guts from the getgo when he's usually very trusting. "A man's dream will never die" is still one of my favorite panels from the whole series.

Skypeia is a fantastic arc and I still have expectations of Enel coming back, specially with the later revelations making the prospect of landmass a lot more desireable.

Foxy pirates is dumb but I had a lot of fun with it. Please make Foxy and Buggy interact.

Water Seven and Eines Lobby have dethroned Alabasta as my favorite arc

Thriller bark makes Moria be a step down from Crocodile, but it's a great wind down arc and has a lot of great laughs in there. Also made me notice that it's not that Franky should never have been a Straw Hat, it's that Franky has been absolutely wasted post timeskip (though which mugi hasn't to one or other degree)

Saboday Archypelago is incredibly tense and seen with whole new eyes after knowing Kuma's story.

Kuja pirates is fine, nothing too crazy.

And now I'm starting the trip to Impel Down

I also decided to reread Whole Cake Island because I am a Sanji fan (though it sometimes becomes pretty hard) and that arc always felt like a huge let down due to how easily he gave up and had none of the initiative and cleverness he showed with Mr Prince or when he detoured in Eines Lobby to close the doors of justice. The arc was better than when I read it weekly (hell the series improves by leagues and bounds read more continuously, it's insane how many small details are sprinkled around and that I never remembered) but Sanji still felt tepid and the Vinsmokes not getting their shit kicked in by him was a gigantic blue ball situation. Big Mom did feel terrifying, Pudding is adorable, Bege is the best fucking supernova and the fight with Katakuri felt a lot more intense than a slog the second time going through it so I did end up with a much better impression of the arc. But I still prefer pre timeskip stuff and I still think that Sanji was wasted in his own story.
