For me, It would be because if people do rise up like that. It would most likely mean society has broken down and its laws along with it. And at that point? The USA got the spot of Hyperpower, and people got complacent. Europe didn't ask for it, but they were happy to play along and allow it. Now it has come to bite them in the ass as their sugar daddy on the other side of the ocean is going senile and the Russia Bear is getting ideas.

The USA shouldn't be the world police by default. It was made world police by it's position of power. The problem is too many people got lazy and used to it, taking the existence of the Hyperpower USA as a given and banking on it for everything. Now we see exactly why that is a bad idea.

Compare this to, say, Japan. Japan has been ok with it's alliance with the USA. But they never made it their sole point of failure. They still have a self defense force, some internal industry for defense, and plans in case of problems. Things Europe didn't do and now is paying the price for.
