She definitely wasn't fasting, but it's not as though it matters at this point; a postprandial blood glucose concentration of 22 mmol/L is not particularly healthy.
Type 1 diabetics, especially children at initial presentation, can have much, much higher blood glucose than Chantal ever could. The Guinness World Record for highest blood glucose was 147.6 mmol/L (2,656 mg/dL), set by a 7 year old from New Jersey, who was subsequently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. He survived.
Modern meters out of the box don’t need calibrating these days. They work right out of the box. They don’t even come with calibration fluid.
There is something called the “dawn phenomenon “. Of course in Chantal’s case the dawn phenomenon is actually more like a sunset phenomenon because she sleeps until 5pm.
I think she should be studied by universities because there’s no fucking medical reason keeping her alive.

Why wouldn’t the drs just put her ass on insulin then? Is it really money? Is she not really seeing a dr? It must be obvious she needs insulin?
This is fake as fuck but it's nice to know what she will look like if she survives another year with uncontrolled diabetes. She'll be blind and I hope her eyes will just do this.
She says she's prescribed 1000mg of Janumet twice a day but that's not enough to control her blood sugar either. I think the main issue is that she doesn't have a PCP, either in Kuwait or in Canada, and no one is willing to prescribe her insulin. They'll write her an rx for other diabetes management meds, but since she's not an established patient anywhere (and is obviously non-compliant, even to the random ER/clinic docs she sees) it's too much of a risk to prescribe her insulin without regular testing and appointments to determine the right dose/timing/type.
