This argument really pisses me off. We know puberty blockers and cross sex hormones have major negative affects on the body, so the evidence that they should be used needs to be very strong. It’s not a zero sum game. Chemo is horrible on the body, but we know (and have strong evidence) that it’s effective. So its use is justified in specific circumstances. We don’t give chemo to people who feel like they have cancer, they have a measurable condition.

It’s not like meditation or exercise which don’t really have and side effects (other than boredom). If a doctor recommends it to a patient, it might make them feel better - it wouldn’t cure their cancer- but it’s unlikely to cause further complications or damage to the patient.

Don't play that game. These are separate issues that have nothing at all to do with one another.

Is Tony arguing that pro-trans people should just refuse to attempt to influence policy in DeSantis's territory. What about Trump's territory if 2024 goes that way? What about people on any side of any policy? It reminds me of a point that some Florida lawmaker who was also an oncologist made and I'm surprised that I've never seen anyone else make this argument before or since.

If someone has cancer an oncologist can diagnose them whether the person believes or even suspects that they have cancer. Can a gender therapist diagnose someone with gender dysphoria if the patient doesn't believe they have it? Are there any other diseases where you can only get the diagnosis by asking for it?

It shouldn't be discounted automatically, but it also shouldn't be considered the only way to gain knowledge and experience.

Experts, educated people, should always be called in to draft bills. Lived experience is for the public debate, to act as a check against unilateralism.
