I doubt she goes to the dentist regularly, which is probably why she needs a root canal in the first place. It's unclear why she's talking about "fighting with her insurance". If she's on NYS Medicaid, which I believe she is, dentistry is covered. If she's not actually on Medicaid, then she's uninsured, in which case there's no insurance company with which to fight over coverage.

Slightly OT Staph psych sperging under the spoiler.

What's interesting about Staph is that she most definitely does not have schizophrenia, but an elaborate delusion as a maladaptive coping mechanism for being a deeply disappointing person. The ghosts always benefit her in some way, it's a fairly consistent delusion over the course of her life, and she is self-aware enough to know that mentioning the ghosts would lead to her being held. All indicate to me that this isn't a true schizo but just a developmentally delayed gal who lacks theory of mind and friends growing up.

I believe in the past she has mentioned her hybristophilia to her counselor, but not that she is norse married to the ghost of Jeffrey Dahmer. Maybe the counselor knows she performed some weird ritual for Staph to connect herself to Jeff, but I doubt she knows that Staph believes she is getting dicked down on the astral plane on the daily. It may seem counterintuitive, but it is not her counselor's job to change Staph's beliefs. If it was presented as an interest she has and that it's important to her, then the counselor would have no reason to intervene further.
That said, I think it is safe to say that these beliefs are causing her real harm. She has no reason to go out and connect with others in her community, or seek an actual partner irl. Her ghost husbandos provide her with all the company, commitment, and physical connection she could desire. I have no doubt that if she knew she could connect with a real person and not be rejected in the process, she would ditch the ghosts for an honest to god relationship. Ultimately, she has no reason to give up her delusions as they have also given her the ability to deny personal responsibility for all of her shortcomings. Quite sad.
