Host clubs and strip clubs have vastly different services, but the clientele can grow attached to a particular worker. In strip club addiction, this manifests as giving insane tips, wanting to meet up with the worker outside of work hours and wanting to be part of the worker's life (platonic or sexual) . This kind of parasocial relationship has existed for ages.
I know many of the workers at strip clubs have a history of drug abuse and being sex trafficked. Do these same issues plague the employees of host clubs?

Drug use is incredibly taboo in Japan and is not usually talked about. There's obviously people who do them, but even things like trying marijuana can get you years in prison.

Sex trafficking is primarily associated with the yakuza and prostitution. It's usually customers who get a lot of debt end up getting into trouble and misfortune like that.

Vast majority of host clubs are legit and more like lounges or bars, and things got a lot better after the employees got unionized.

Japan can and will throw your ass in prison for years just having illicit substances in your blood, i can't think of another country that does that. Like, you get picked up by the police, they suspect you are on something, they do a blood test (with or without your consent) and if they detect anything on that screening off you go to the big house.
Personal-use amounts of cannabis net you prison terms in the 3 to 5 range, draconian doesn't even begin to describe how hard the nips are on drugs. And yes, like you said, it's such a huge societal taboo that even mere suspicion of you being a user makes you a pariah, that case were an actor lost virtually everything just because a photo of him circulated where it supposedly looked like he had drug paraphanelia on his table (it turned out to be candy, i've seen the photo, nothing even remotely looked like anything drug related) comes to mind.
Even after being cleared of any wrong doing he had to give a press conference where he announced his retirement from the industry and he subsequently faded from the public eye.
Ironically, Japan was the birthplace of modern methamphetamine.
Bad meth in pill form from Thailand (called Yaba in Thailand, Shabu in Japan, though i think they call heroin Shabu, too) is one of the prevalent drugs on Japan's streets in the present day.

Do you have tranny cows in Japan?
Fuck, when the international board started, I really wanted to do a post on Ryucheru. My favorite local cow.

He offed himself last year :optimistic:

「Gaijin Twitter」ではたくさん日本に住んでいる外国人が自信過剰あるんだ。「lolcow hunting」することに絶好のスポットだと思う 笑笑笑。おすすめのアカウントは「Gaijin Mommy」って、アタオカなクソ女だ。

The drug laws here are fucking gay.

I feel bad for the people who are nonbinary or X-gender always having to be associated with crazy people like that.

Gaijin twitter is just an insane asylum full of ex-JET who refuse to leave the country. All they do is bitch about Japan.

idk which I hate more, the incessant doomer-posting from gaijin twitter or the cock sucking of "pretending to be gaijin twitter" twitter.

Edit as to not double post: family blogger in big trouble after locking his 2 year old in a car, waiting for a locksmith, not not calling 119 and not taking her to a hospital……

The channel is ラウナノファミリー

My god, the "ex-JET still living in Japan but complaining about it" phenomenon is so weirdly common. I know at least two people who are leaving their JET contracts a year early because they can't stand it here, yet they're choosing to stay behind for a while still, even though it means not getting a free ride back home. Like, wtf? If Japan sucks so hard, you have the opportunity to leave right in front of you.

It's always the shitty ALTs that are like this, too. The good ones either leave and move on to get actual teaching/international relations jobs in their home countries, or stay and have zero problems assimilating because they understand the expectations. The ones who suck, be it as a teacher or as a person, love to stay and then go cry and moan when it turns out that trying to make it on your own in a foreign country without the safety net JET provides isn't the comfy slice-of-life anime they always dreamed it would be.

But hey. Even if these retards annoy everyone by running their mouth off on xitter, at least we can all take comfort in the fact that it's pretty much guaranteed literally everyone around them fucking hates their guts.

Why anyone would take the time to move to a foreign country, only to bitch when said foreign country has a different culture is just baffling to me. You really do have to be a special form of entitled and ignorant to think that it won’t take you some time and effort to integrate into it, if you ever properly can. Do thorough research, people.

I talked to different JETs, ex and current, when i visited the gaijin bar that was connected to my hostel and it was basically non-stop bitching about Japan. How they do this that way, how they don't do this like we do back home and so on. Even the black, non-JET dude from the UK i talked to and asked about his experiences with racism in Tokyo seemed wistful when he said "Man, it's not like back home!" :story:
It's like you read virtually everywhere online, they think Japan is Anime Wonderland and can't comprehend nor adjust to the harsh realities of japanese society, they seriously underestimate how extremely rigid it is and what is expected from the average citizen in terms of behaviour, especially at the workplace. Calling the JET programme work is a bit farfetched though.

EDIT: Also, what is wrong with yank tourists? They bitched worse than the JETs. Bitch, you really expect a queen-sized bed in a $15 per night hostel? There are pictures of the accomodations on the website! Shamefur dispray.

Honestly the only ones that I've known who have actually "made it" in Japan were either 1.) JETs long before the anime craze (OG japan appreciators) or 2.) People who were already very out of their element in their home culture, but not in an antisocial way.
