Before mid-to-late 7th gen, most people spoke of games the same way one would talk about an action figure. For most, they only games that existed were sports (racing, basketball, football etc.) or toys for a kid. At least from my experience.
Not really!? I made a metaphor. GTA sales might "regress to mid". That was what I am talking about. That GTA5 was an outlier in sales that had a lot of things going right to make it the biggest success in games while GTA6 has little of those. And it also has a horribly high budget.

Unless they do something incredibly retarded like adding a hate crime meter which instantly gets you a game over or making everything destructible except Heorge Floyd memorials or it has shit tier performamce and bugs out of the ass, it's very likely to do well. There is nothing and has been nothing that does what GTA does in 10 years that I'm aware of. There is a huge demand for that.
Will it indirectly save Sony's ass (or microsoft's while at it) and cover it's own retardedly bloated budget?
That's where things get hazy. I very much doubt it will move the units Sony expects, the FF games didn't do much in the grand scheme of things and though not as big as GTA, they are supposedly big system seller games.
It is also coming to the XBox whatever as well, and pc gamers are a patient lot. So sony famboys that stuck with the ps4 for now may bite into the PS5, but Microsoft and PC gamers won't for the most part. Switch players are a strange breed so who knows what could be gained there.
As for GTA6 recovering it's costs. Again, assuming they don't do a huge fuck up that ruins the formula and it comes out at a properly debugged and tested level, it will probably make up costs, but will take a long time, a PC release and maybe something out of left field like a Switch 2 version. And a lot of that will depend on the multiplayer doing gangbusters again.

I don't see GTA6 being a runaway hit like GTA5 (that's a big ask even a master developer everyone's openly rooting for unanimously), but I don't figure it'll bomb either. I wouldn't be shocked if it gets delayed a bit so it's ready for a PS6 launch, because honestly I can't see it being a real system pusher for the PS5 this late in its lifecycle.
With a billion-dollar budget though? I don't think they're gonna make that back. GTA5's big win was multiplayer. Shark cards print money. Can they beat that level of success? Because that's what it'll take to claw that $1b budget back.

GTA is what gaming is to a whole lot of people. Of course it'll do extraordinarily well.
To be perfectly honest, Rockstar should have been cranking out GTAs on at least an every-other-year basis. Shorter campaigns, worlds with more filler, and of course they all connect to GTA Online. Major content updates happen for everyone when a new $70 game releases, but you still wanna buy the newest game to get access to all the new cosmetics and cars or else you'll look like a poorfag. That business model makes a lot more sense to me than pouring TEN FIGURES into GTA VI.

You actually think the GTA crowd would even notice, much less care if they did, that GTA is woke?
If it fails it will be because it was too expensive to make or has a Cyberpunk tier launch. Another thing is the install base is lower this gen, there's just less people to sell to.
This won't hamper the game's sales in the least. If anything it'll draw more women into the series or just not effect sales.
That's why we never got a proper Mario Kart 9.

It was easier to just throw together 10 or so vehicles and sell them at 20 bucks a pop on GTA Online.

They will notice when the pride flags are everywhere, the troons are the prostitutes (which they cannot punch btw) and pronouns will be said upon introduction to a new character. All those things are just the mantatory ones so that they are not completely destroyed by the media for whatever reason.

Funny enough, out of all the major multiplayer games out right now I think GTA Online has been the one that hasn't had regular Gay Pride/LGBT fag shit released annually. (I might be wrong on that, I stopped playing 2-3 years ago)
