Not Just Bikes / r/fuckcars / Urbanists / New Urbanism / Car-Free / Anti-Car - People and grifters who hate personal transport, freedom, cars, roads, suburbs, and are obsessed with city planning and urban design

It's not even much of a slight, either. What, that bicycles are just slightly worse than cars in the "convenient vs. dangerous" scale?

Are they just mad that he didn't flagellate cars like what they're used in their infographics?
He even threw them a bone with the trains being put as safer but slightly less convenient than cars. But obviously an urbanist graph would place cars where hot air balloons are by completely ignoring reality.

Of course their cope is probably "you're stuck in traffic!". They will do anything to cope that a bicycle is somehow more convenient than a car even if they have to ride their bike through the snow or being drenched in rain. Does not matter if it's 100 degree weather and they smell like a hobo's asshole from sweat. They will still say without a shred of irony that biking is better and to just suck it up.

Reminder that this is over a comic that just joked about hot air balloons and wasn't intended to be some sort of grandstanding statement of cars somehow being superior. He's taking this way too seriously. Jason Slaughter is such an egotistical shithead full of himself. :story:

My bold criticism might anger the hot air balloon people, which would be a real concern if any of them lived along a very narrow line directly upwind of me.
I think he's pooper peeved by rating bicycles as slightly more dangerous and slightly less convienent than cars, which as his own dutch govt. has stated to be the case.
I’m over here being like “I don’t think hot air balloons are that dangerous” but lol
It is one of the more dangerous "common" hobbies 24 people have died in the past decade alone.

Edit somehow I missed an entire thread page I'm a fool and a brigand.

I feel like they still don't like them because technically a hot air balloon is a personal/private vehicle and you have to be somewhat wealthy to partake in it.

The funny thing is I think the focus of the comic was more on statistics and algorithms and he just needed a funny graph as an example. Jason is the sort of guy who takes EVERYTHING personally.

Do you think this has to do with a containerization of cargo?
Not really. Containerization was meant to kill off an entire dockside/trackside industry of packers, warehousement, loaders, stevedores... Instead of repacking and handling a product two or three times it would be factory-sealed in a big metal crate that was shipped door-to-door by various means. Containerization hasn't worked out perfectly because the containers are still opened and messed with numerous times by customs and are almost never dropped off at the customer's door (seriously when was the last time you saw a container truck at a warehouse instead of a box van?)
Think of railcars like parcels. It takes a lot more manpower and man-hours to deliver parcels door-to-door than it does to run them between post offices. Railroads want to run unit trains with one type of car carrying one type of cargo from the producer to the customer and back empty. They have always been run by some of the most penny-pinching capitalist caricatures you'll ever see.

Fun fact: within the pop urbanism community NJB is despised by some (like Alan Fisher) for this take since his opinion has quite literally been "North America is unfixable, flee to heckin Amsterdam" for a while now
It's like a weeb thinking that Japan has zero problems whatsoever

Alan's a cuck too for continuing to take Chuck Marohn's word as gospel and continuing to make effectively the same points as Jason minus "North America bad" but it's still funny that these groups just cannot avoid infighting.

I'd be willing to bet when xkcd put out that one Urban Planning Progression comic, Jason figured Randall would start putting out more and more comics in support of urbanism and his pet topics. So now seeing xkcd even imply now that cars are not le bad reads as a betrayal to him. All that's missing is Jason's shower call to Randall in the middle of the night. I hear those eco-friendly water heaters crap out pretty quick.

I’m over here being like “I don’t think hot air balloons are that dangerous” but lol

There's probably some "how many use it vs. accidents" numbers that he's probably pulling from somewhere, but even looking at the list of hot air balloon accidents it's not THAT many. Sure, the 2016 incident in Texas where sixteen people died was shocking (pun not intended) but stuff like that is incredibly rare.

OP made another one, further proving that the left can't meme:
In any good meme there's going to be a grain of truth to it.

Trying to split hairs about renting vs. owning is stupid because in "good" construction there's exponentially more rules and regulations about what you can and can't build, and building becomes way more costly when there's a million codes, licenses, and everyone in the bureaucratic ladder wanting a slice of the pie. There's less regulation in Houston compared to other big cities of course, but Houston is bad because it's car-centric and blah blah blah.

This is compounded by the fact that this isn't what actually urbanists say they want. They complain bitterly about parking lots in downtown areas and then propose changing the tax code to force them out of existence. They get mad when big box stores open with a parking lot out front. They champion parking maximums, even when parking minimums is used as false libertarianism.

The same guy in my city who thought that agricultural land was being wasted and should have commie blocks with rooftop gardens is now mad at some freeway widening in that same area. It's coming with an improved bicycle path and wildlife tunnels or something.
I know he must not care about the loss of natural space that much so that leads me to believe all he cares about is performative suffering for himself and others.

What the fuck is with this personality type?!? It seems to have existed forever. I'm reminded of those monks that used to walk up and down streets flagellating themselves. I'm a party person. I like to have a good time, I like the people around me to have a good time. I just don't get it.

As much as I hate to give a reddit mod credit for anything, I gotta respect how he instantly recognized what the carfucker was doing and called it out. Then when he did that obnoxious "well golly gosh I don't know what you mean I'm a heckin' BASED conservative just like you", told him to piss off. Good try there bike cuck, maybe try not loudly announcing your strategy to trick someone next time you try it, you might get a little further. I figured a liberal would have a better understanding of how to worm their way into places and ruin them.

Never take a liberal at face value when he purports to hold one of your values. I can guarantee you he doesn't. These people offer their children to trannies and apologize to nogs, whatever values they hold dear are not values you want.

This video was shot in 2008. The steam engines are gone now, but does anyone think this area is all gleaming glass and steel edifices by now? There's a lot of this in China too. Outside of the big cities that they make an effort to show off is a huge swath of Appalachia-tier deprivation, filth and ramshackle-ness.
tbf using a Steam engine when mining coal is just smart business, gotta pump out water anyways, and you are digging up the fuel so no need to pay the petrostate tithes to deliver the stuff that makes you money.

If you don't care about stuff like 'air quality' that is xD

Jason Slaughter really is getting worse. He's almost bordering on Internet Tough Guy antics. People did say he would likely get his own thread.
Personally I don't think he deserves his own thread yet, if he exited his hugboxes and started getting into slapfights on Twitter etc. he'd be thread-worthy but as is I think he's best suited as a sideshow in a thread about people like him since all he does is seethe in his hugbox with the same rehashed talking points.
