The Bobomb now isn't just motivated by his sheer unrelenting hatred for Luigi and horror at seeing him crossdress. Now he wants to prevent clumsy Luigi from bumping into people!

Possibly the worst change in this remake. Just replace interesting and charming comedy with "mean" elements with the most boring sanitized corporate safe family friendly line.

At this point I’m starting to wonder if I’m mixing up the original game and the current game’s scripts because I could have sworn it was the original joke in both instances I looked at it.

Probably 20 years worth of knowing the original script and just assuming in my brain that it’s the same content even though it isn’t.

I do think this is a bad change though. A mustached man in a dress would be funny to anyone both back then and today. It’s the basis of so many looney tunes jokes.

I dont understand why they have to fix the meaner dialogue when it comes from villians. Wouldnt you expect the big bad Bowser to mention he wants to have a submissive Peach barefoot in the kitchen all quiet? Sounds like a villian to me!
see here.
If you want to show brutal injustices to the viewer, you have to be willing to depict truly awful things. SJWs invite us to "imagine a better world" by sterilizing fiction of the aspects of reality that upset them the most, creating settings that are practical hugboxes.

Because if you have a villain say that stuff, it clearly means that you think that way. Don't you know anything, Chud?

Nintendo introduces ‘transgender’ character in US remake of Paper Mario video game

A female character introduced by Nintendo in its flagship Mario series 20 years ago is now a 'transgender' male in the latest American version of the game, sparking outrage among conservatives.

(LifeSiteNews) — A female character introduced in the U.S. version of a Nintendo video game 20 years ago is now a “transgender” male.

In 2004, purple ghost Vivian was included in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door for the Game Cube console along with her evil sisters Marilyn and Bedlam.

Vivian was mocked incessantly by her siblings because she was “ugly.” She has re-emerged in this year’s Nintendo Switch remake for the U.S. market as having been picked on because she was born a boy.

“Truth is, it took me a while to realize I was their sister… not their brother,” Vivian tells Mario in the game, according to Nintendo Life Magazine. “Now their usual bullying feels heavier.”

The New York Post is reporting that in non-U.S. markets, Vivian’s “true identity” was included in the first edition of the game.

“In the original 2004 Japanese version, Vivian was also transgender and subject to teasing from her sisters,” the outlet has said.

CBS also reports that a review by IGN magazine states that in the Italian edition of the 2004 game, Vivian’s sisters “misgender” her, causing her to lash out and to be “proud of her transition.”

The Post has further stated that “the difference in the new 2024 edition is that the teasing is toned down, with game-makers adopting a more celebratory attitude towards Vivian’s trans identity.”

Reaction to Vivan’s “coming out” to U.S. gamers has fallen along ideological and religious lines.

Conservative voices on social media bemoaned the fact that yet another cultural institution has embraced wokeism and are grooming young people into supporting LGBT ideology.

Pro-LGBT activist website GLAAD has reported that as of November 2023, there were 146 console games available in the Xbox store that featured LGBTQ content. Sony PlayStation had 90 such games while the Nintendo Switch eShop included 50.

I want to believe that they’d just not include a character like Vivian, so the woke aspect wouldn’t be too big of a factor,
:optimistic:

Yeah, it was kind of a niche card game, Japan only but I remember seeing it get some play at a few comic book shops and conventions
This video is made to look like an in-game tutorial and explains the game pretty well.
That's pretty cool, too bad it was Japan only. They get so much awesome shit.

I’ve wanted this for 20 years at this point. But, seeing as they still left in the jokes they he was super ugly in the wedding dress disguise, I’d have faith that it wouldn’t be too ruined. I think the biggest problem would be that too many of the potential audience already knows the plot and the jokes/twists,
You're in denial lol

Yeah, and they're also trying to bury Wario, if you haven't noticed. After all, when was the last time that he starred in something that wasn't the WarioWare series.
I'm still bugged that they didn't even bother to at least port Wario VB to 3DS...

I think there is actually some kind of rule or something about Wario not showing up in non-Wario games. Everyone and their mother wants him and his tennis buddy to start being in actual Mario games again but he will get *at best* a reference and nothing else. Especially strange since DKC has become more and more a part of the Mario brand, but Wario and his supporting cast (both of them) never get anything. I'm curious if it's a Miyamoto thing.

I'd kill to get Syrup in spin-offs.
They're pretty inconsistent about it. Wario was added to Mario 64 DS and one of the Yoshi's Island games.

Syrup and other 3rd rate characters are wasted potential, Nintendo never uses them. Stanley basically doesn't exist for some reason (I assume because they're ashamed of DK3 because it sucked and didn't sell great).

I'm so turned off by this remake that I decided to go WAY back to the 1st game on N64.

And to challenge myself even more, I'm doing a run where each level I get I only upgrade the badge points first, then FP, then HP. Currently have 24 badge points, and am in the desert area grinding star points. Upgraded Goombario.

Because it'll be adding more and more shit to the brand, which is something that Nintendo is allergic towards going through with, for some reason.
I guess it makes sense, they should be careful, but some more spinoffs would be nice, that should be safe. They don't need to be in the next mainline Mario or anything. A lot of these characters just don't even exist anymore outside a sticker in SSBU, and it's just a waste.

You know what’s been stuck in my head ever since all the little script changes started coming to light?

That… seems like a very normal way to play the game. Sure, you probably want to prioritize BP as you get more experienced, but I’d expect a first-time player to keep all three balanced.

Yea it SEEMS like it, until you realize just how quickly your HP will drop in the latter stages when it's still stuck at 10

Thank Christ for the Damage Dodge badge though. All those masked bandits and pokeys do zero damage after a successful block (which is easy to time for the bandits, not so much for the pokeys). I can only imagine how challenging it's going to be once i get to the temple that has those pokeys that poison you. Item stocking and Star Power Refreshing is defenitely going to be a thing in this playthrough.

Badges i currently have on:
  • Power Bounce
  • Quake Hammer
  • Damage Dodge
  • Close Call
  • Runaway Pay
  • Refund
  • Pay-Off
  • Chill Out
  • Speedy Spin
  • Dizzy Attack
  • Spin Attack
  • First Attack
  • Attack FX A, B, C
I currently have 3 Badge points available to use, if shit get's rough and i don't find anymore badges, I MIGHT have to equip the HP Plus badge just to get by.

Oh, you meant upgrade each of those all the way! I thought you meant upgrade BP->FP->HP->BP->FP->HP->…

Then yeah, good luck with that. I’m gonna wait until N64Recomp gets updated some more then try to make a PC port of TTYD64. It’s a hack I’ve been meaning to play for a while anyway, and that’ll be a great way to stress test recomp.

At this point, I want to find out how to mod the game and make an entirely new script out of spite.

Some ideas:
-Goomba language is all bix nood speak. Goombella is no different, Professor Frankly talks like Grandad from the Boondocks.
-Koops is not a wimp at all. In fact, he gets into fights all the time. His girl loves it.
-Flurry is an old deathfat and acts like trailer trash like Mama June from Honey Boo Boo.
-Bow is a rude-as-fuck troll Edited out, was in the first game only
-Yoshi is mexican and the Glitz Pit is just one big lucha libre event
-Admiral Bobbery is obnoxiously British
-Ms. Mowz is a psychotic kleptomaniac, maybe even schizo
-The robot infatuated with Peach does a bunch of incel speak and gets indignant when his advances aren't recipricated. Actually tells Peach to enjoy prison.
-Finally, Vivian is actually a guy, has always been a guy, but was forced to 'transition' to a girl because his sisters are his only caretakers and they hate men. The other two sirens have vernacular that matches the lolcowfarms.

I think it could work.

(Also, I never noticed this before but.....Vivian DOES have a gunt).

Well godsneed and goodluck with that if you could.

Yeah, and they're also trying to bury Wario, if you haven't noticed. After all, when was the last time that he starred in something that wasn't the WarioWare series.
If they were trying to bury him, he wouldn't appear in every spin-off and the Ware series wouldn't continue.
At this point, Wario is such a complex character that making him just another villain again like he was in the traditional Mario games would be kind of a waste. I’d love another Warioland as I loved shake it, but I wonder if the reason we haven’t gotten warioland in so long is because they didn’t want to cannibalize the New Super Mario brand by having two Mario-universe platformers.
Wario Land died as the developers went under/got merged after the GBA. R&D1 became a smaller team within SPD1. A lot of the focus of the Land series was also put on hold as the R&D1 team was moving into Metroid development between Fusion and likely Dread.

Once absolved into SPD1, the team found new focus between WarioWare, Rythm Heaven, Tomadachi Life, and Metroid, among others. Nintendo tried to bring Land back through Good Feel's Shake It!!, but it did poorly and Good Feel now finds success with Yoshi.

Nowadays, with Metroid being revitalized even higher than it was during the Prime era, I think the team would rather just build Metroid.

That Anton Blast game coming out for Switch this fall is a pretty good approximation of a Wario Land game in all honesty. I'm surprised Nintendo didn't throw money at them to put Wario in the Switch version. That's how close it is stylistically.

Had a similar issue with OMORI, only it's kind of the opposite. Because I didn't mind SPM's gameplay as long as it was at least passable to go through (which it was), I'd gladly follow along a game's interesting story if it has passable and not annoying gameplay.
OMORI has SLOG gameplay + having to blast through slow dialog and cutscenes, it was BARELY on the verge of passable for this alone and I figured "as long as there's an interesting story to tell and see here, I'm willing to put up with some shit".
Needless to say, the "big twist" pretty much soured any experience I had put into this game and left me burnt out of ever wanting to replay it for the "extra lore" content in a different route.
Offtopic, but what is the big twist of Troonori, if you don't mind me asking? Seems like the game captivated a good fanbase, and even led some people depressed, on the verge of suicide (and even commited such act).

As for Paper Mario, I don't have much to comment as I never played it - yet it seems to have laid a fun groundwork for RPGs, even if it wasn't on the same level as that of Mother 2 (even if people may not know that). As for someone who said about Mario, Luigi, Wario and Waluigi together in a potential RPG game. It's hilarious because I really wanted to see something like that. It's the fans that seem to like this the most, compared to Nintendo - who doesn't seem to care. Also I have some questions pertaining to Wario and the WarioWare """universe""". Is Wario from Mario series the same from WarioWare? I'd say obviously yes, yet there's a motley crew of so many characters (Ashley, 8-Volt, etc) that never pop up on Mario games.
