A bit more on my attempts with combining the high-resolution textures with Paper Mario TTYD64: the skybox was a problem inheren to the ROM hack, not he textures.
Since RMG wi the GlideN64 plugin let me dump textures in the texture_dump folder in the cache folder, I also found the names of some of the unaltered GUI textures. I wish that I could unpack the .hts file and copy the high-resoluti ones wi the names of the unaltered GUI textures, bu th is a rather complex thing.

FWIW, every 4 years (barring the time between SPM and Sticker Star being 5) there has always been a new paper mario game to come to Nintendo consoles. So even if this doesn't convince developers to go back to the old formula, we can expect a new paper mario game to come out in 2028.

I’ve been doing more digging.

Kawade had a panel at a Japanese game dev conference in 2017 where he explained “The Reason for Making a Game” using Super Paper Mario and Fire Emblem Cipher(the card game) as the two talking points. Lots of the unique ideas and the justifications for starting the pitch, etc. but it showed he was still interested in game development at the higher level.

Also in 2017, Intelligent Systems did a basic “why should you work here” interview with him where he lists his job as “Director and producer” and talked about his desires for future games he’d like to work on. All vague stuff, but seeing as he hasn’t worked in a game proper since SPM and he immediately went to supervising this remake when the fire emblem card game finished in 2020, I think there is a decent chance he wants to try something new again with paper mario

I wanted to really like Dream Team since Luigi had more of a focus that time around, but something about it just made me put it down after getting to a certain point. Can't really pinpoint what it was but all of a sudden I got that "I kinda don't want to touch this anymore" feeling.
Dream Team is an almost perfect game that's borderline ruined by those stupid goddamn Big Mode Battles or whatever. They're slow as shit, insanely easy, and not fun even a little. Knowing that one is coming at the end of every act makes you dread victory.

Paper Jam had the same issue but with the papercraft arenas, which are even worse. I don't know why they insisted on putting terrible gimmick battles in their games, but I'm reasonably confident that they're the reason the company went out of business.

I thought it was from them.shitting out two remakes in a row?
Not putting out an original entry for five years certainly didn't help. They could have just made Mario and Luigi: Here's Some More Of The Same and people would have bought it.

To this day i do not understand what stopped them from making this

Seems like to most obvious choice right after Bowser's Inside Story, if Alpha Dream was hurting for money after Dream Team, making a game with these four would have been a good money maker instead of making remakes that nobody bought.

And to be honest, I want this to do well because we haven’t had a real paper Mario game in 20 years, and this might be the only chance we get to convince Nintendo to make more
That's what I was thinking too, though TTYD2 but woke isn't something I'm looking forward to. Best case scenario the Japanese might not be too bad and we can get a fan translation to fix it.

That would require actual talent.

You see, mario is a blank slate, so you can stick him wherever and he'd practically fit in and the world he's in just molds around him. Case in point: Having Mario control an actual Dinosaur or fight a Dragon that looks like it came from RPG#438738576 in Mario Odysee makes no fucking sense in any other game with a mascot but because it's Mario, it's somehow O.K.

But then you have Luigi and Wario, and that throws a monkey wrench into the situation. Outside if the "NEW" games (and even Wonder), Luigi actually has a personality. He shows emotions (mostly fear, but still) and acts more human than Mario ever did. And Wario is just fun as fuck.... a cocky greedy bastard that likes to cause mischief. You would need to make a story that is built around those kinds of personalities. Is Wario going to be completely cooperative? Are both him and Waluigi going to keep fucking with the Bros throught the entire journey? What is Wario going to gain out of teaming up with Mario and Luigi? Is Luigi going to be the glue that holds the 4 of them together so that nobody fucking dies and shit get's fixes? Theres TONS of variables available for this kind of set-up, including jokes/gags.

In order for this to work, you would need a VERY strong team to work on it, and my confidence for Nintendo to actually throw a competent team onto this, let alone even make it at all, is less than zero

What, you expect them to put Waluigi in anything other than a sports game/Mario Party?

Nintendo is venomously against Waluigi being in a game that isn't a sport or Mario Party game. I sincerely feel like they'd shoot it down for that alone.

I want to believe that they’d just not include a character like Vivian, so the woke aspect wouldn’t be too big of a factor,

Yeah, it was kind of a niche card game, Japan only but I remember seeing it get some play at a few comic book shops and conventions
This video is made to look like an in-game tutorial and explains the game pretty well.

After playing TTYD again, it's cemented my desire for Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. I'd love to play as a bumbling Luigi that stumbles into victory while everyone starts to hate you. I'd be too worried about the script though and that it would wink at the player constantly.
I’ve wanted this for 20 years at this point. But, seeing as they still left in the jokes they he was super ugly in the wedding dress disguise, I’d have faith that it wouldn’t be too ruined. I think the biggest problem would be that too many of the potential audience already knows the plot and the jokes/twists,

It's even more insane because they SKIPPED a game in the remakes and instead remade the game that was STILL BEING STOCKED ON SHELVES. (bowsers inside story). They also fucked up the OST with weirdly audio mixed midislaps in a manner of what seems to be ailing this new TTYD remake.

I think there is actually some kind of rule or something about Wario not showing up in non-Wario games. Everyone and their mother wants him and his tennis buddy to start being in actual Mario games again but he will get *at best* a reference and nothing else. Especially strange since DKC has become more and more a part of the Mario brand, but Wario and his supporting cast (both of them) never get anything. I'm curious if it's a Miyamoto thing.

I'd kill to get Syrup in spin-offs.

At this point, Wario is such a complex character that making him just another villain again like he was in the traditional Mario games would be kind of a waste. I’d love another Warioland as I loved shake it, but I wonder if the reason we haven’t gotten warioland in so long is because they didn’t want to cannibalize the New Super Mario brand by having two Mario-universe platformers. Nintendo strikes me as the type of consign to do that.
then again we’re getting to a point where Mario, Luigi, and now Peach all have their own solo franchises, so who can really tell what’s going to happen in the future. Personally I hated Princess Peach Showtime

Did they?

The Bobomb now isn't just motivated by his sheer unrelenting hatred for Luigi and horror at seeing him crossdress. Now he wants to prevent clumsy Luigi from bumping into people!

Possibly the worst change in this remake. Just replace interesting and charming comedy with "mean" elements with the most boring sanitized corporate safe family friendly line.
