While I sympathize with Shinji, it's hard to feel bad. It was a shitshow from day one. What made him stick it through another 41 days? No fucking way. You could leave, like others did before you. Own fault.
Dude he didn't leave because he was falsely promised good money by production. Sam and Jet lied to him. He got tortured for 41 days and made less money then if he had been mopping floors at a grocery store in California I did the math.

It seems to me like he wanted instant fame and adoration while putting in zero effort. I tried to watch one of his streams once and he was just sitting there not speaking at all, he wasn't even trying to be entertaining or engaging.
It feels weird. The stuff he made before Fishtank had its charm, and he showed blatant ability to be an interesting talker, to the point people stayed up late just to watch him chat with the camera. When he actually got out, though, that aspect felt lacking in his streams (besides the one physical thing he did of pulling Doritos out of the game). Even weirder than that, his idea of ass-busting high-quality content seemingly turned into fact shorts with AI footage. That doesn't come close to what he did before or during Fishtank, that's just AIbro #81302 thinking there's still space for him to milk the "GET EASY INCOME BY DOING NOTHING!!" bandwagon.

That said, though, the bits of the Scott stream I saw just felt unnecessarily cruel. The guy needs genuine help, and all he gets is some side-character sped trying to milk him while he's still available.

Someone like Shinji is funny in the context of a show like fishtank when you want a diverse group of weirdos. Seeing this goofy Japanese pervert is funny when they’re in an environment they’re not used to (sort of like how Greg was funny in the context of fishtank but not on stream). The thing is watching an ESL play games in silence isn’t entertaining. I think it also doesn’t help that Shinji has had this woe is me attitude for the past couple of months.

I agree with the latter part for sure. I don't want to dog pile him because he's obviously down bad mentally right now. He desperately needs some sort of real guidance and reality check though. Going through all of this just so he can be an innovator in VR porn is super retarded.

fishtank better be next

It's kind of depressing that Shinji got fucked out of any money despite coming in second place. I mean they played the whole golden scarab thing as it was worth something and he'd get some money out of it. I mean what's the motivation for people to try and succeed on that show if you're going to not win anything on a whim of the production?

The whole 'oh but you can make a great streaming career by being on this show' is bullshit too.

He DID win money, the problem is he let a 'friend' manage his finances lol. We can't really know how much shinji was actually given because he's a retarded ESL that let somebody with obvious ulterior motives manage his most important shit lol. If anybody knows where shinji goes to college, we can figure out how much a credit hour costs + food/lodging and get an idea of what he may have actually made.

What was he majoring in again, neuroscience? A rough average from California colleges that offer it might be a decent start.

To warrant going on Fishtank, you have to have nothing going for you in life. It's worse than legal gambling, it's far more likely the odds will be pitted against you than not. You will be deliberately humiliated by losers, for losers. They will make at least tens of thousands off of your humiliation and maybe pay you a few grand, maybe not. How much you bring in is irrelevant to the payout, it is at best dictated by arbitrary, poorly thought-out challenges that are subject to change on a moment's notice.

It's a shit show. I know the economy sucks but the time is better spent focusing on just about any line of work.

Maybe having the cast be all Squidwards last season will help, as it'll turn off any other MDE fans from wanting to go on another season.

Also good cause I want to see the show be a train wreck and fall apart, with Jet and Sam sitting in an empty house a few weeks in with egg on their face. That's much more likely going to happen with normies from the hiring agency.

It’s not just that the odds of losing are high either, it is far more likely you will come away from the show with a net negative than a net positive. You’re drawing attention towards your entire persona. People are going to be snooping around in your personal life, or at least try to. While it’s not a guarantee, any contestant could very well be doxed or have their dirty laundry aired to the world. All that risk for the chance of earning a couple months pay (if the crew feels nice enough).

The only person I would argue got a net positive out of the show was Josie, and that’s because she got some paypigs out of it to fund her going forward. She made a semi-living off of it, although it’s a stretch. Even with her gains she still attracted some real creeps who actively want to fuck her.

Jet posted this and then posted something similar from the fishtank twitter account 7 min later. Salty!!!
In all honesty this hunger games concept is 1. unoriginal & has probably been done a bunch of times and 2. sounds nothing like fishtank bloodgames as if this giant streamer has any fucking idea what that is. Someone's getting too big for his britches.

I'd argue that if they keep having Vance back season after season for camera work then he's done quite well for himself too. Sort of better than Josie in a 10-year-plan sort of way where he's getting transferable media skills that pad a resume very well and could get him a salary with a health plan when he decides to leave MDE.

I'm not sure it has - obviously they haven't got the tech set up yet but the only analogous media I can think of was watching this type of multi-perspective in a Hunger Games scenario in Minecraft, or multiple POVs in Fortnite, and not IRL. Pre-recording and editing a hunger-games type event has probably been done too. But live, I think, is still considered cutting edge, even moreso if there is an interactive element where the audience can choose who to watch and "sponsor."
