2.) People who were already very out of their element in their home culture, but not in an antisocial way.
That is actually surprising to me. Only person i know who made it, or rather had it made, as he came back recently ("You can only hear how good you eat with chopsticks or how good your japanese is so often" is one of the things he said after coming back, he doesn't bitch like a JETtie but he's close to it) is a relative who worked in the country for ~10 years, already was fluent in the language and had a high paying job before he moved there.

Honestly the only ones that I've known who have actually "made it" in Japan were either 1.) JETs long before the anime craze (OG japan appreciators) or 2.) People who were already very out of their element in their home culture, but not in an antisocial way.
People who move to a new country thinking it’ll be a different, magical experience tend to not function well in any society you put them in, unless they’re moving from a third-world shithole.

I haven't kept up with one potential western lolcow living over there in awhile named Matt Thorne (now "Rachel"), a "manga" professor at a womans university in Kyoto. Some of you know him for his translations of classic bishojo manga and maybe having something to do with the manga museum in Kyoto.

First time I ever saw weird troon shit going on about trans 5 year olds back in around 2011 on his personal blog (blog was since nuked). Was all in glee that five year old in a Japanese kindergarten supposedly showing gender dysphoria in a survey (most likely not understanding the question)..

Also first time I ever saw the whole IM A LESBIAN IN A MANS BODY shit too.

The asshole locked their Twitter feed a few years back after thinking it was a good idea to just start claiming various mangaka are gay by evidence of shaking hands with them. Went on a cringe inducing thread about Hirohiko Araki being gay.

Say what you want about his art (nevermind the man's been married multiple times), but making such claims in a society that isn't a magical gay heaven like anime pretends it is is dangerous shit to do and could of ruined his reputation.

Was also able to find a few years ago Matt Thrornes comments in various Japanese news sites and man does he come off as the usual entitled expat.

It's like you read virtually everywhere online, they think Japan is Anime Wonderland and can't comprehend nor adjust to the harsh realities of japanese society, they seriously underestimate how extremely rigid it is and what is expected from the average citizen in terms of behaviour, especially at the workplace.
I've seen several vidya game streamers move to Japan in the last few years and all I can do is shake my head. Some of their idiot fans will also move there without understanding anything about the society.

I still dont understand why pewdiepie moved to Japan to raise a family. He hade 3 other nations he could choose from and Japan was the one he picked. Dosent seem like a good place to raise a family if your not native.
And he is getting his idiot ass kissed for that. From the same people who are praising Japan because they don't like foreigners. But their favorite streamers are all allowed to be foreign immigrants invading Japan.

My god, the "ex-JET still living in Japan but complaining about it" phenomenon is so weirdly common. I know at least two people who are leaving their JET contracts a year early because they can't stand it here, yet they're choosing to stay behind for a while still, even though it means not getting a free ride back home. Like, wtf? If Japan sucks so hard, you have the opportunity to leave right in front of you.

It's always the shitty ALTs that are like this, too. The good ones either leave and move on to get actual teaching/international relations jobs in their home countries, or stay and have zero problems assimilating because they understand the expectations. The ones who suck, be it as a teacher or as a person, love to stay and then go cry and moan when it turns out that trying to make it on your own in a foreign country without the safety net JET provides isn't the comfy slice-of-life anime they always dreamed it would be.

But hey. Even if these retards annoy everyone by running their mouth off on xitter, at least we can all take comfort in the fact that it's pretty much guaranteed literally everyone around them fucking hates their guts.
Speaking of, this might be getting a bit off-topic, but holy fuck, r/JapanLife is a cesspool FULL of "people" just like this. I mean, I know Redditors as-is are subhuman but my god.

Nah you’re spot on. That’s a septic tank full of pseudo lolcows.

This is the fag that forced/shamed Goldfinger into accepting trannies on the one fucking day they still operated as “women only.”

If you aren’t an anime fucking freak and aren’t a loser with zero non-teaching job prospects, Japan was easy to thrive in until the yen started to tank. That’s the only thing making me think of leaving lately. The economy blows.

The proportion of “coomer anime weebs” in the “English teacher” population is too damn high. They need better hiring standards.

Does pewdiepie at least make an effort in learning the language? I know next to nothing about this dude except "What a fucking nigger" and that he moved to Japan recently.

I hope @Quamdale Dingle isn't too mad we are shitting up his thread this bad.
I think he learned the language. Last I remember his wife started a fashion like called "tsuki."

But yeah maybe a Japan general thread will be better to not disrupt the convo about actual Japanese lolcows.

Done. I've set up a "Japan General Thread" in the "General Discussion" area of the site.

I still dont understand why pewdiepie moved to Japan to raise a family.
I can't speak for him, but I'm in the exact same situation he is, and one of the reason for which I moved here is because it's pretty much the safest place I could think of to have a family.
Of course it's also good for our jobs, the quality of life, we like the culture and the language and all that, but I won't make my children grow up surrounded by shitskins that hate them, and have to worry whenever my wife is outside after 5 PM. It makes sense for me to be here. It could've been other places, sure, I lived in somewhat safe places in smaller European cities as well, but since I have to move away from my home city, might as well go somewhere we enjoy.

Personally I don't find the "why did you move" question interesting, lots of people move for random reasons, because they know a guy, because they're doing a sabbatical, because of a girlfriend, because of studies, etc, the interesting question is "why are you staying here", which is a constant decision made year after year. Everyone got his own answer.

Drug use is incredibly taboo in Japan and is not usually talked about.
Yes and no, depending on the circles you're in, it's actually not taboo at all.
If you hang out with rebellious youth, hangure, fighters, or the general kabukichou/roppongi/shibuya people, you'll hear about them quite a lot. Some forums are also not shy at all on the topic.

The thing is that contrary to common belief, a lot of drugs are accessible and/or legal.
I can buy opiates on online pharmacies legally, I can buy cannabinoids vapes (analogues of THC) on Rakuten legally, Benzos are distributed like candies by doctors for "anxiety", you can find sellers of unregulated LSD (like 1D or 1P-LSD) on Twitter, other GABAergics drugs like Phenibut and GHB analogues are around and not illegal to do, kids love to do that pure DXM sold OTC and talk about it in school, it's legal go to pick psilocybin mushrooms in nature if you don't say that you knew that they were psychoactive if you get caught, etc.

What is super illegal and plain stupid to go after is the big ones that people that don't know laws go after because they're "famous" and "cool", like cocaine, meth, cannabis, or heroin.

The reality is that substance use and abuse is full of small subcultures depending on the category of substances and its use, and they exist like in any other country. You simply won't hear about it on TV shows or something because the government won't allow it. The book "NHK ni Youkoso" got into some trouble when it was published because the writer wrote about his DMT experience, and how he ordered the ingredients online to make it legally in his home.
Hell, until a few years ago 3-MMC was legal, party people were having a lot of fun with that.

Are you aware that you are the shitskins invading a foreign country? Are you aware that Japan as a whole isn't fond of foreignes? You think you are an exception because you think you aren't like "those people".

It makes sense for me to be here.
Your fellow shitskins think the same way.

Of course it's also good for our jobs, the quality of life
OK, shitskin.

Immigration as a whole is a complex topic. On the one hand you can have a well-mannered, civilized, possibly well-educated person lawfully going to live in your country. On the other, the fucking subhuman tide of shitskins, niggers and assorted mudslime filth invading many first-world countries. There's a massive difference. The poster you're replying to is most certainly NOT a "shitskin invading a foreign country".

Sure, the average jap (and many other peoples/cultures for that matter) might prefer not to have any foreigners in their land at all and that's something you've gotta respect; don't pull a shocked pikachu face when people snub you just for existing, no-one asked to come and no-one invited you, you could say.
