Her inability to think like a normal person means that all we learn about this man is the thing she wants us to take from it - that he is 22 years old. Is he hot? Is he mature for his age? She hasn’t thought that deeply about it. She just wants you to know that she is attractive to 22-year-olds.

The postpartum period is characterized by such a strong realignment of one’s personal identity and ego that it should probably be illegal to give a new mom tattoos. Hair dye isn’t permanent, but so many women chop off their hair after having a baby that there is an SNL skit about it (“The Cut”).

Postpartum recovery should be measured in years. They say 18 months between babies but that’s just so your body can HEAL. If you’re waiting to see what your new mom bod will be, you need to wait something more like 3-4 years. Your ribcage might lay down more again. The skin on your abdomen might firm up again. Your hair will grow back.

Don’t chop off your long hair 3 weeks postpartum. Don’t get a tattoo. Don’t get a tummy tuck or breast implants. Just give yourself one goddamn minute. Instead of consooming makeup or slave-made fast fashion or whatever, how about you “get heavily into” spending time with the human you just made. Hmm?
