God DAMN I didn't even notice this part. The troonery is undeniable. I still can't get over the dev coming to RPG Codex and trying to try the users into thinking it wasn't pozzed to hell, and when it was about to become most apparent BAM they fucked off. Hilarious. Seriously, what sold me more on Morrowind's world and the setting weren't the weird plants and beings and buildings and shit, it was more the fact that I was called s'wit, scum, n'wah and fetcher all the time. I remember reading some predditor crying about that fact in particular because he was just heckin' broken down by pixels in a video game and eventually accepted his position as "fetcher." Heckin' kindness is free! Why can't those racist Dunmer chuddenheimers not be nice??? (Completely forgetting that being a hater is also free)
 
My gripe with indies is thus:
* This 30 year old game made by 5 people on zero budget in Assembly FUCKING SUCKS.
* It's heckin unwholesome to criticise a game made by 20 people, dozens of volunteers, backed by million of dollars in Patreon and a big publisher, and using a premade game engine. And it's all a bad copy of a 30 year old game.

There is no "punching down". If someone sells you a product then I don't give a shit of how hard they worked on it.

Most indie games are shit though, I hate AAA gaming but the AAA industry puts out way more bangers per year than the indie game industry even though it's shit.

Indies are good if you have a certain itch that AAA games do not scratch, like in my case it's strategy, cRPGs, city builders and stuff like that. Even then the game has to be up to the standards of good old games that were either high budget for the time or classics. Some recent indie games I enjoyed were Dominions 6 and Manor Lords.

Unfortunately most indies are just some variety of either platformer, pixelshit, survival or autism simulator so if you don't like any of those you're fucked. Also a lot of the time it's just "this old game we liked but injected with current year soy."

Can you recommend some good indie strategy games?

Every time I look at the indie tag on Steam it's almost exclusively platforms and walking sims starring fat ugly black women.

Besides the two I mentioned, Battle Brothers, Lost Technology and Kenshi are ones I remember enjoying a lot.

You could play the open source ones, KeeperFX and OpenRA have good communities, same with OpenTTD. Tooth and Tail is like the last good original strategy game, besides that I dont think theres anything which comes to starcraft warcraft AOE levels of good. Sea Salt, Nephilim Saga, Wargroove, Songs of Conquest, War for the Overworld and Offworld Trading company are okay at best but you could try them

The tl;dr is "indie writing is as shit as AAA writing", which is true as long as you stick with Anglo games.

Where I lost him is when he talked about Fantasy Racism not appearing. First, leftists like to use racism for obvious strawmen badguys. Second, it is always unrealistic shit of people sperging out on another race (which is especially stupid when there are legitimate racial differences). Third, it has no point, it doesn't advance or teach anything.

I don't get why westerners have such a hard on for portraying racism. No one cares besides sperglords.

I think what he means is that conflict is a natural part of life and a fantasy setting is inherently unrealistic and breaks immersion if all races, factions whatever live in harmony with not as much as a difference of opinion.

No idea why he's using the word racism instead of conflict though.

Both are stupid. Racism is pointless in a work besides worldbuilding, a good writer will just have something like the Dwarf calling the Elf a Knife Ear and get on with his life (which is by itself pretty overused) and have the adventure go on, maybe elaborate on it if it's interesting enough.
Conflict is stupid because by already equating it to real world races you already made it either: "Both sides are wrong" (rarer nowadays), "IT'S LIKE THE HOLOCAUST", or "they deserve it".

Elder Scrolls did this best by making every race act in their own self-interest, which they take personally against each other when they inevitably step on toes.
