If anything, I was expecting Kiryu to be the one they would emasculate due to him being strong, stoic and masculine (arguably they did since they gave him cancer and he needs a group with him now). But a lot of people are only interested because of Kiryu's story and would probably get ditch the game completely if they tried something like that. The trend of girl-bosses in the recent Yakuza games has been concerning (in 7, a Yakuza Family Leader and a Chinese Triad Leader willingly hand over their clans to a girlboss Korean woman, who is the Leader of the Korean Mafia that creates all of Japan's fake money)

Yes, he's a little goofy, but ultimately a normal dude trying to adjust to the world he's been cut off from for 18 years as well as figure out where he wants to go in life now that everything he dreamed of doing the past 18 years is no longer an option. I actually really am enjoying that aspect of the story.
Main characters don't get happy endings in Yakuza. Look at Kiryu, who'd rather die of cancer crying himself to sleep over a woman who never loved him instead of getting with any of his multiple love interests that have waited for him for like ten years. It's why I stopped following the main series after the abortion that was 6's plot.

Okay... But I'm talking about 8. Which has an even shittier story than 6. And the previous 2 games (not counting the judgments) were really good in that part, with 7 even having a pretty happy-ish ending for Ichiban, so the shittiness stands out even more.
Trannies is easy.... because speedrunning. There's a sub-group of sonic fans that believe in that "GOTTA GO FAAAAAAAAST!!!" mentality, which is why the boost games (Rush, Unleashed, Colors, Generations, etc...) are loved by many.
The best hypothesis I've heard is that Sonic characters have very straightforward and cartoonishly exaggerated personalities, which makes them easily understandable/relatable to autists who have trouble picking up on the subtleties of human behavior and social interaction.
