Thats the thing, I learned more on Linux than I ever did on Windows, Windows seems to go out of its way to prevent you from learning anything during usage.

On the games front I personally just recommend not being a faggot and grab a console. The gap between console and PC is only going to bother neckbeards at this point, people who want to wank to benchmarks instead of actually playing games. Linux is an insanely good platform for old games and emulation though, Lutris bundles them as runners and is a perfect front end for your pc collection.

Wine will let you just set the version of windows you want and then gamescope usually solves any display issues. Most stuff just runs these days and if your not a total retard you can solve any issues with a wine version change or running in the terminal and seeing exactly what the error is. I couldn't get Red Alert 2 running stable on W10, Its running flawlessly on mint.

I had a similar problem with Dungeon Siege where it worked without a hitch on WINE under mint but threw endless gpu compatibility errors in windows xp on virtualbox. What's funny is that Microsoft developed this game and it works better now in Linux than in Windows.

They talk about higher security, but the big thing they are pushing is privacy. A few years ago they allowed iphone users to block apps from tracking you which apparently fucked over a lot of the social media sites. They are big into how everything is kept on device for their new AI push as well.

I switched to Apple products recently and honestly I love it. I know thats an unpopular opinion here but for nigger cattle like myself, its been a refreshing experience over Windows. I think I made the right call timing wise as well, my gaming desktop cant upgrade to 11, and this recall shit is really skeezing me out.

My friend bought a second hand XBox recently because he will be wanting to play GTA6 when it comes out, and he got the latest Call of Duty with it, and watching him click through all the bullshit battlepass/store sales/skin bundles was eye opening. I will not be going back to a console any time soon if I can help it.
I could not get Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines (not the Swansong(?) edition) working under Win10, and I found similar success like you, running (definitely not flawlessly though, game is jank as fuck) under Linux.
Plus I can pirate games on my PC, short of theft I do not think we can do that on current gen consoles yet.

Muh special snowflake peripherial is a bigger problem and a reason I haven't switched to lunix on my main PC yet. Xbox-centric gayming shit is known to either not work, or be barely functional, drivers are half baked pieces of open source shit. I don't mean to pull a "WORKS ON MY MACHINE", but that's really strange since I played through the Tiberian Sun and RA2 campaigns mid last year on W10. The only issue I encountered was the fact that the games handled alt+tab poorly.

The biggest problem with Windoze is driver incompatibility and when you have two programs using different drivers and subroutines that don't want to play nice. That's what Apple tried to eliminate. By controlling everything from hardware to software and in between they minimize any potential issues you might have down the road.

And that's by biggest gripe with Apple. They're too controlling. If I buy an item, like a smartphone, I want it to do what I want it to do. Apple says, "no. You'll only use what we want you to use".

It's why I don't buy Apple.

It was mostly down to driver issues. MS didn't want people buying Windows 2000 and finding out their shit didn't work. Companies had to write new drivers for Windows 2000 and many didn't care to or were currently burning to the ground in the dot com crash.

It's also why when Vista came out you had to buy things that were "Vista Ready" or "Vista Approved" to show they had the proper drivers for their devices. Didn't help because Vista still sucked.
