Dear sweet Jesus - John Money is the
last motherfucker to turn to for valid research on gender.
Let me tell you guys about the infamous case of David Reimer. He was one of a pair of male twins born in 1965...until a botched circumcision mutilated his penis beyond repair. The doctors advised David's parents to raise him as a girl alongside his twin brother. This is where John Money came in.
He recommended that David have his testicles surgically removed, construct him a vulva, and call him "Brenda". He wanted "brenda" to get further vaginal construction surgery, but the parents put the brakes on that one. From then on, Money would have therapy sessions with both twins in order to "prove" that gender identity is learned, not inborn. This is when the train goes flying off the tracks right into a crowd of puppies and orphans.
According to David and his brother Brian, Money would make them do some gross, depraved stuff such as: take each other's clothes off, touch each other's genitals, and simulate sex acts together.
All while Money was taking photographs. Of course, Money didn't let the parents know this was going on, and they only cut off visits with Money when he kept pushing for David to get more vaginal surgery. Despite the fact that Money no longer had access to the twins, he kept making falsified reports claiming that "Brenda" was "successfully living as a happy girl along her happy boyish brother".
Money did such a great job of making them "happy boys and girls", that Brian developed schizophrenia and committed suicide via drug overdose. Despite being dressed as a girl and given female hormones, David didn't identify as a girl. When he was a teenager, his parents finally revealed the truth to him, and he started dressing as a man and changed his name to David. He underwent surgery and hormone treatments to revert his body back to male a few years later. He soon got married to a woman and helped raise her 3 kids from a previous marriage.
Despite all this, David suffered from depression, and after his brother killed himself, David's marriage fell apart, and he shot himself in the head with a shotgun. Until his death in 2006, Money continued to stand behind his research and claimed that it was discredited due to "a right-wing agenda". Even better, he claimed
If I were to see the case of a boy aged ten or eleven who's intensely erotically attracted toward a man in his twenties or thirties, if the relationship is totally mutual, and the bonding is genuinely totally mutual ... then I would not call it pathological in any way.
This is clearly someone whose professional opinion is 100% valid and should be respected. /sneed
