One other aspect to consider about this is this happens almost immediately after Rekieta's drunk-coke-stream and arrest. Dax was mocking everyone expressing shock at the level of addiction they witnessed, and started Balldo-guarding as hard as he could, blaming both the church and Nick's kids for getting him arrested.

This had the effect of building up some bad animosity towards Dax, and Riley getting arrested just set off the powder keg.

After ISOM 3, Eric is passing the writing duties onto someone else(he said he already has someone in mind) and that he only intended to write the first three books.

I’ve also heard that there’s evidence he did listen to writing criticisms and you can notice it in #2.

Aside from that though, it’s apparently pretty basic or “mid”. Nothing super spectacular, but nothing incredibly cringe either. Obviously it’ll need to get better to retain interest, but that’s the state of ISOM as of now.
