We should just go back to when we had a 3% to 5% tax rate that should be the flat tax and if people are gonna ask how are we gonna pay for all these massive government programs we're not
Better yet, let each state manage their finances independently and cancel all federal programs. The bankrupt People’s Democratic Republic of California should not be my concern.

A family of two is going to have a hard time living off $60,000 these days, not to mention state and property taxes.

Median household income is $74K. I chose a number lower than that because the complaint was that income tax hits the "lower class" hardest. If you make over $74K, you're not "lower class."

However, here's a fun table for you so that you can stop bitching that you pay too much income tax. Here are some effective income tax rates for married filing jointly, standard deduction:

IncomeTax paidEffective Rate
$60K$3,2565%
$74K$4,9307%
$150K$17,19111%
$250K$32,58013%

Listening to Millennials and Zoomers bitch about 7% income tax and 6% interest like it's some historic rape of the lower class never before seen in American history is a trip. In 1985, after the Reagan cuts, net income tax on a median household was 15%, double what you pay now, more than what people bringing down a quarter mil are paying, and interest rates were double digits.

There's a whole lot wrong with things right now, but "taxes and interest are crazy high" is not one of them. If anything, given how addicted America is to government spending, interest rates should be in the neighborhood of 25%, and taxes should triple across the board.

I don’t think the argument is that it disproportionally hurts poor people, at least not directly. It hurts single, upper-middle class people the most, as they have little mechanism to loophole their income. But it also disproportionally hurts the rest of the middle class as well.

But there is an argument that can be made that it is ruinous to the poor indirectly.

Where are these numbers coming from. I've lost at least 30% of my check for years.

This is why I said lower classes and politically unconnected. Income taxes are always pitched as a way to redistribute wealth away from the highest earners, to fund the government budget and pay for entitlements to those less well off, but it never works out that way in practice. They always disproportionately affect lower earners, while the entrenched modern aristocracy of the media-political class and the super-wealthy simply recoup whatever taxes they appear to pay by other means. The problem is intractable, because every closed "loophole" and every proposed solution to "fix" the problem of disproportionate impact of income tax always end up falling right back on the shoulders of the same people.

Now I'm going to go and tell the wife that someone called me a millennial. She'll be thrilled to have a younger husband.

Supreme Court struck down the bump stock ban 6-3.
That's the one thing Trump didn't fight against and irritated the hell out of me. The pistol brace thing is even stupider, time to hit that now. Only other thing I'd really be for is getting suppressors off the NFA, at least as a semi-realistic goal for now.

On Kos, my favorite left cope 'if we're in charge, pack the court!!'.

Is there a pistol brace case on the docket? That's far more interesting for me.
this just happened yesterday. not at the supreme court level but it's a win for now

In a huge blow to President Joe Biden’s bid to ban “assault weapons,” a federal court today ruled that the administration’s effort to regulate and tax AR-15 style “pistols” is “unlawful” and “illegitimate.”

In a 12-page decision, the Texas-based U.S. District Court vacated the rule that could have led to the destruction of millions of firearms, among the most popular in America, and the jailing of owners who had refused to comply with the administration.

1994 had an AWB. These things change quickly, but the culture is such that it would be very hard for at least 20 years.
I don't think they'll ever get back to the 90s level of control. see attached gif its one of my favorites. They will have to take it from cold, dead hands.

And just think, every single one of those color changes was lambasted as bringing the wild west, chaos, masses of licensed people, then unlicensed as well having constant shootouts. And through all that whining and complaining, it's still the same old blue cities and occasional redneck shitfest where it's all concentrated.

It's my opinion that the concealed carry revolution wouldn't been much less likely, or at least much slower had there been no AWB. It caused the red states to pretty much uprise against gun control and brought about more powerful and smaller pistols that were basically tailor made for CCW.

Why was this feral sheboon allowed to walk free, a few days before she stabbed a child to death, despite directly confessing to another murder and saying she wanted to kill more people?

Because the nice goodboy white judge didn't want to make her feel bad by making her sit in jail over the weekend waiting a psyche eval, despite having multiple warrants out for her arrest across multiple states.

That would be makin' a racism and he can't be accused of makin' a racism!

Makin' a racism would be even worse than 3 year old (white) children being stabbed to death!

they're trying to make the best out of a huge fuckup, or they're just the most disgusting people imaginable seeking to make political profit off their tragedy
This has always been my belief about the whole situation. They heard about a bunch of dead kindergarteners and their first thought was we finally got it, this will totally create the will for another AWB of not total confiscation and bans. Yet it didn't, and Jones became a scapegoat for them coping about how it didn't work. If he hadn't spread those damn dirty conspiracy theories they finally could've gotten the control they want.

I wish there was a way that wouldn't be asinine and impossible to enforce besides to require these oh-so-compassionate judges releasing obvious menaces to society to do so solely into their own neighborhoods.
Easy to preach compassion and humanity when your house is behind a gate with private security. It reminds me of the time Kshama Sawant led a mob to protest at the mayor, Jenny Durkan's, house and that shit immediately got shut down after two weeks of that incompetent cunt letting the same mob tear apart Capitol Hill and pretend it was all justified hippie shit.
