Possibly. TVTropes is about the same size and demographics as Wikia/Fandom, which as early as 2016 or so IIRC had a Disney corpo account adding Disney Star Wars shit to Wookieepedia 24/7. Wikia has only deepened their ties with big corporations since then. There's a very high possible there are paid editors shilling for corpo goyslop on TVTropes, just like Wikia, Reddit, and many other places.

The former trope still exists but under a different name: Once Original, Now Common. Even that page has a cleanup thread
Perhaps it makes sense to make the trope name more generic to avoid confusing people, but it still reeks of the bored janny behavior to change a name by mod fiat instead of vigorous debate on merits of tradition and demonstration vs ease of use.
