On top of that, rules and policies seem arbitrary. They claim everyone has an equal chance of success, and yet are compelled to push woke alphabet shit, to "raise minority voices" or however they put it. If everyone has an equal chance, why do they need to put their thumb on the scale? And if they're raising one voice, doesn't that mean they're marginalizing another voice to make room?
Rules and policies are arbitrary and contradictory, by design. Basically the platform can do anything, and the user can't adapt other than listening to the nudges of the system. Because you don't have clear rules, you have to rely on a cargo cult understanding of the "current thing".

Fun fact, this is how society is ran.

The sheer amount of words I've heard censored in the past few months has been surprising.

And yes. Guntubers haven't even moved, despite having to gimp their content more and more. They've tried, but mostly it's resulted in rounding error audiences and no payouts. So it all just keeps circling.back to 'yes massa'.
My pet tin foil theory is that YT basically inflates their numbers, because... why not.

They already know third party botting is a huge issue, what would stop the company to make their numbers look better by just adding a multiplier here and there. We would never know because all we can see is what they give us. They even nuked SocialBlade so we can't see when somebody has bought bots to pump up their numbers anymore.

I sure will never forget the random Van Life channel what had millions of views on their first video and people were subscribed to it, without you know actually subscribing to it.

The "say McDonalds to end commercial" thing is from a real patent. They're smart enough to not push this yet but they've already patented it and I have no doubt this will show up in a commercial product sooner or later
Luckily our techno hellscape has also provided the solution to this! One could use AI to monitor for prompts and automatically say the response, thus allowing the two utterly worthless systems to cancel each other out. This is a strong case for artificial unintelligence.

...huh, which one was that, I've seen some fucky stuff around that genre.

And 'why not' is about it, the only counter to 'inflate the numbers because we can' is because they don't have to care anymore. They don't have to look bigger than anyone else, they just are.

using FOSS ML to engage in asymmetric warfare against companies is a funny idea.

Two months ago I lost a playlist. It was my original favorites list, I've had an account since late 2005. Many videos were lost over the years from attrition, deleted channels etc. the reason? "Child Endangerment" would they tell me the video? No. Was I able to appeal it? What do you think.
I had this same thing happen to me a few years ago, very old account, 5000 video ancient favorites playlist, deleted for "Child Endangerment," appeal denied with no reason given. Since then, YouTube is far from the only platform that's fucked with me for no reason, I feel like social media platforms are actively discriminating against very old accounts and I have no clue why. Bots run rampant on these platforms while they ban people with 15+ years of legitimate activity. I have no idea what the fuck is going on, tech has gone full retard.

I'm not saying this is it yet but at some point we're going to reach the phase where us oldfags took up all the good usernames and they'll want to cull.

One of the more fascinating tricks I've seen is that Youtube will actually do fake Likes on your comment and send you notifs about it, even if your comment has been sent to invisibility hell and no real human could have seen it.
That.....doesn't sound entirely legal tbh. At a certain point that kind of thing gets to the point where the service is actively and deliberately defrauding the user about the actual service they're getting. Service providers aren't allowed to do that kind of thing. Either the person did something to violate the tos and should be kicked off the service or they didn't do anything to justify such behavior

That said injecting ads could be its own can of worms and I can see a major youtuber or group of them making an issue of it on the basis that it violates copyright law by directly altering the content they're uploading itself. Its fine to run ads normally but this is directly injecting them into whatever the original video is and altering the content of that video, which is technically a copyright violation. This is one of those things they could be gone after for on a technicality, as altering a copyrighted work without the authors explicit written consent is technically illegal (and god help them if its ads for something scammy, illegal or porn related, that would open yet another can of worms). Nor is it something they can just hide in a tos agreement and expect to enforce. Theres a legal process to that one and it applies to every original work. This comes off as youtube hoping nobody knows that or betting on nobody caring enough to make a major issue of it. Its also technically a section 230 violation and if someone wanted to make an issue of it for a questionable video that somebody uploaded they could have a case for youtube losing its immunity for such videos when they inject ads. They don't want that for some mass shooting or islamic decapitaion video. Same legality that can get a site fucked for altering someones violent threatening post on a forum. They can legally delete it entirely but altering it in any way can get the site in trouble and opens a liability can of worms for everyone involved if the threat ended up attracting police attention or was the prelude to something serious

You could probably also set up a macro for this. I doubt there's gonna be much diversity in the phrases if the ads I'm getting served are any indication.

Injecting adds directly into the video stream is computationally expensive last I heard. I'm guessing there was some breakthrough in encoding technologies or hardware that allows them to do this cheaply now. Things certainly look grim for users of youtube, glad I never grew dependent on watching content from there, seems like so many others have.

I think it was this one.

I used to have an account back in the day and I sure was surprised to find this in my subscription list.
Memology101 made 3 videos about it. I think this was a sort of prototype and they just tweaked the model since then.

By all means, they can discourage any competition by their sheer size, and they are so big, nobody would notice if they shuffled the views here and there. Social media made people get used to huge engagement and nonstop buzz.

It doesn't have to be. If they do it as part of a chunked playlist or even just inlined between iframes, it's not THAT bad. You don't have to composite it in and re-compress the video.

Ah, I'll look at it! Not what I was thinking of.

Do girls just get bombarded with tampon ads or what? Because once I got bored and watched a bunch of horsie videos and Youtube switched from giving me Grainger ads to giving me tampon ads until I stopped.

Would be a shame if some gay ops began where teens take a hit of their Penjamin for the length of the ad break.
YouTube ad? You mean smoke break, don’tcha?

It's that, bras, and maternity stuff. Idk if it's because youtube caught on from my voice in my painting videos or if my browsing history triggered something, but for the past 3-4 months the ads have gotten hyper-targeted.
