It's just over time there has been a crossover that has lead to the Vtuber, the end point of the idol industry. It's a weird parasitic relationship honestly.
It almost feels like VTubing was meant to replace idol shit. Like some nip in a suit realized that idol spergs were deranged morons who were easy to split from their money, and everything since then is "how to cut out the performer". They tried with anime, but that just led to Seiyuu (read: voice actor) sperging. They tried with vocaloids to some success. Then they tried VTubers, with the first big VTuber notably being a Text-to-Speech "AI" (pretty sure some faceless suit was pressing the buttons to make the digital puppet dance). They were close, but no cigar and they had to revert to human performers. Over time, the VTubing shit would stray from idol shit and just become like any other Internet personality stuff (yes, including shitty companies popping up like Machinama 2.0s).
In retarded VTuber delusionland, it is generally considered taboo to "roommatepost", I.E. acknowledge the past activites of the """actress""" behind the VTuber. Like @Tenshi Eating A Corn Dog! said, it's Idol Culture shit.

Thank you for the information, I can see how this would allow weird pedo shit to proliferate into the fanbase. I begin to see the parallels between this and anime fan culture. I genuinely don't think the majority of people into these fandoms are into creepy sex stuff, but it's perfect cover for creepy people who are.

Another point worth mentioning is that the EN indie vtubing community is so incestuous that it would make the creator of The Coffin of Andy and Leyley blush. Practically every EN indie vtuber of any renown is no more than 2 or 3 degrees separated from every other notable EN indie vtuber. First, parasociality is not only encouraged but promoted by the companies themselves because, in the end, it brings in more money. The more the fan gets attached to the talent, the more they are willing to splurge on them. It still upholds many of the old Japanese idol customs like voice packs, birthday packs, engagement rings, special signed photocards, and sometimes even private messages if you spend quite enough, and their work contracts reflect this (the most famous example of this is selen tatsuki) , which revealed most vtuber contracts are the same as idol slave contracts even if the streamer is from the west. lolishit and pedoshit is quite prevalent since, sadly, they attract an untapped lucrative male coomer audience (just like how anime does) who are willing to go into debt to donate to their "oshis" and are blindly loyal to them more than your usual coomer titty streamer. The cognitive dissonance these people have is something to behold, if any controversy or critique happens, you know you'll have enough lapdogs to sweep it up or deflect the problem as "it's just anime culture, you normies!!". or "she didn't mean it that way, she's just edgy." It's the same how idol otakus are obsessed with their idols and will defend them no matter what, and it's the same on the male side as well, fujo pandering to attract faghags and yumejos (women who think they're in an actual relationship with a male character, in this case the streamer), who have not only done just donations but blood tributes as well, like the tag #cutforhex. In the end, it's the same industry but with an anime face pasted on it so it attracts the worsts of both worlds.
