A thread for all your TAD needs.

Mozilla really wants to get that advertising $ enough that they had an emergency firing of the standing ceo to get someone into the position that was willing to do it.

Also louis rossman is probably the most proTAD person I have seen on youtube. He has quite a few videos, basically saying fuck youtube. Use adblock, if you want to help creators just pay them directly. Also being willing to argue for piracy in certain circumstances.

(Edit to ad the piracy one because, why not)

What am I supposed to use now
Like somone mentioned. There are forks of firefox that have the mozilla stuff stipped out. Like librewolf. Also of course their is brave which is chromium based. Or of course ungoogled chromium.

Mullvad browser is the best as far as privacy is concerned. As far as I can tell. Specifcally if you follow their directions when using it. But if you really want the best option. Its having mullvad for things you don't log into. Then one of the other browsers you use for your accounts.

librewolf

LibreWolf owns. I also use the following plugins: Temporary Containers (isolates and anonymizes each browser tab to prevent tracking and other gay shit), Privacy Redirect (automatically redirects certain domains i.e. youtube, reddit, twitter, etc to the alternative of your choice, works on embeds), and PrivacyBadger (blocks tracking cookies and domains), as well as uBlock Origin, which LibreWolf ships with. I have NoScript installed but I generally keep it disabled unless I need to deliberately break a site to avoid getting AIDS.

Like I said, I've always disliked pushy internet ads. First it was just banner ads, which quickly became distracting animated GIFs. Search results soon got clogged up with advertisements. Then came spy cookies and popup. Then ads with sound. Then spyware and adware got big. Then ads inserted into videos and video ads. Then search engines got clogged up with advertisements again. Now it's Current Year with all that clown crap like almost every phone call being a scam call or robocall. And of course there is all that crap YT is trying to pull. In a better world, that "free software spirit" would run a decentralized 'net, instead of corporations trying to turn the 'net into TV 2.0.

I have not seen an ad in almost a decade now and I don't plan to anytime soon. Watching some company shill their shitty product or service and being unable to do anything about it is a sign of being niggercattle
A while back Null recommended using AdNauseam: It's uBlock Origin that clicks all ads to obfuscate your profile and harm the ad networks with artificial clicks. I alone caused an estimate of 5k in damages (it shows in the extension).
Thanks, I will install it immediately. Time to cause some damage, lmao

To think there was a time when advertising could be lived with because it appealed to a wide audience and wasn't made by and for hyperurban enclaves of gentrified rat people, and now we need stacks of scripting to ensure we're not overexposed to candy coated DNRd overstimulated 30 second vomit meant to sell Taco Bell. I still remember the first time a Stadia ad slipped by Brave's blocking, I nearly did a Jace and punched my monitor from the sheer gay.

Yeah. I had adnauseum installed on my firefox. I ended up finally deleting firefox. As much as I like the idea of google chromium not being what every browser is based on. And wanting to support that. Unless they next in line ceo that go shoved out wins their case firefox is just not what it was before, or could be. I'll get librewolf and re-ad my extensions to that.

More on firefox. Really looking at how much money google as paid into keeping firefox alive. It seems to me, that all it really is, is a puppet that lets google say they legally don't have a monopoly on internet browsing. Its really a pretty sad state to be in.

The best option.
If you watch a lot of videos on YouTube, use FreeTube and never worry about ads again.
The only reason I watch normal youtube. Is do i can spew my dumbass opinions in the comment section.

Really I need to just make myself use freetube, and if I really want to say something I can log in, put the comment in, and log out.

I want to add. Newpipe is another good option. That works a little differently than freetube.

Also their are options for youtube music. I can't remember their names but i have one on my phone, and had another on my computer.

Librewolf is great except that it hardcodes your browser's timezone to GMT because if you're in the polar research station in Antarctica your timezone can dox your location to within 100 feet. Autism, man.
This matters because a number of websites (including this one) use the timezone from your browser. The really annoying ones also assume your location and currency from that, meaning you get all your prices in euros.

There are extensions you can install to hack the timezone back, but you shouldn't have to.

I'm assuming you can change that in either your settings. or if you have to you can use the about:config

also another option is going back to using user js files in firefox. though idk i think just making librefox a little less privacy oriented for convenience is the better option.

edit: I went ahead and downloaded librwolf onto my laptop. I found this about changing the time zone in the about:config

One setting you can check in about:config does affect the time zone which gets reported to web sites: if privacy.resistfingerprinting is set to true, then Firefox will always report UTC to avoid leaking information about you that could be used to generate a unique fingerprint and let web sites track you even without cookies.

lol I just noticed it was adding an emoji in. every time that happened I was typing about : config. withouth the spaces.

last edit: you can just disable it in normal settings you don't even need to go into the about config.
