I never watch the livestreams. How bad did Rich get?

It's literally been years since I watched. I don't have a specific example to give you, just the impression I came away with. There's plenty of moments that hint at it during Best of the Worst -- just check his reaction any time it looks like Jesus is going to come up.

Pre-Rec convinced me Rich needs Mike's abuse to keep him humble.
There’s a clip in one of the BOTW videos, I think the one with the clown horror anthology, because they used a clip with Jack as a clown.
It gave me the vibe that I should never check out that show for this reason.

I would've, as a gamer who enjoys their stuff, but something said “don’t”.

It makes perfect sense that Mike's abuse was big brother bullying to keep Rich in check from going full autist. With Pre Rec it never felt like Rich wanted to be there, even for the less story-filled games like XCom or PUBG or Friday the 13th where he couldn't pretend he was just more focused on the game.

One thing I always wonder about with Jay doing "acting" is I can't tell if he deliberately sounds like he's reading a script to fuck with people, or if it's him getting in his own head about actually acting. From Space Cop to the animated shorts, I can never tell. There's a stilted way he talks that's ever so slight compared to how he talks in reviews and BOTW and even podcast interviews. With Mike and Rich they actually seem to try when doing other things.

Pre-Rec is whatever as a review show. Their Order 1886 video is funny, but the rest is forgettable. I do remember hearing their Battletech video sucks hard though.

It's how I know the reason why he hates Star Wars is because people turn into Jedi. Which is the point of a lot of Star Wars media via the Hero's Journey. The motivation is because becoming a Jedi requires a belief in a higher power--the Force in this case--and it goes against his beliefs as an atheist. What really annoys me is when he just refuses to review this or that media such as OG KOTOR. First of all, it violates the improv acting ethos and second, the reason why normal people recommend media is because they like it and want to share that experience with others. So a blanket no for no reason is always annoying.

That is actually even worse than I thought.

Being unable to get into Star Wars because the Force offends your Atheism is somehow even fucking gayer than when people do that because they're Christian.

It's also why he loves Ghostbusters, as it's a movie about science prevailing over the supernatural.
This nonsensical with relation to the Star Wars position. The existence of ghosts in Ghostbusters necessitates that the supernatural exists. It doesn't matter that they don't make themselves subservient to it, or even that they in some sense 'defeat it', it's there. Similar to Star Wars: Call it hokey religion all you want, it's not going to help when Vader's slamming you against the wall, look ma, no hands.

A true Atheist in Ghostbusters would instead be like Walter Peck, calling the whole thing a light show. And none of this has any bearing on our reality.

His point is that scientists figure out a way to trap and contain the supernatural using technology, not woo-woo magic.

Also, from all evidence, there is no God. Ghosts and the Gozer stuff are more akin to Lovecraftian dimensional creatures, which certainly fits -- in Lovecraft, all things attributed to God or gods turn out to be explicable either by science or by alien beings beyond comprehension, but which certainly have no concern, love, or even awareness of humanity.

That’s kind of a sad way to approach fantasy to me. Like, imagine if Tolkien let his faith block him from LOTR because of magic or creatures other than humans, instead of using his faith to aid his creation. His works would’ve been miserable.

That kind of atheism reminds me of lame Christians that won’t say “deviled eggs”, or show out if you say “Jesus Christ”.

I will say, Rich has been fair to stuff that even I as a Christian would have ripped harder like that BOTW with the obnoxious lady and the puppet she shook down for money. So maybe he mellowed out a little.

Hey everyone! Get ready for a double feature of re:Views Regarding Rich™. First up, Jay and Rich re:Visit the 1980 live action Popeye movie starring Robin Williams and inexplicably directed by 1970s auteur Robert Altman. If you've never seen it before, it's...strange. That's almost done editing and should be out real soon. Also shot is a re:View with Mike and Rich discussing the first half season of a current streaming sci fi fantasy show that does not have any controversy or anger around it at all and has a very normal fanbase. Coming soon!!

I'm really looking forward to some condescending explanations about why everyone is overreacting to The Acolyte.

Neat, that's a film I've never actually watched, but only caught little bits of on TV way way way waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back. And then never hunted down as an adult when I heard it was a musical. I'll look forward to that one.
