Are you just not exploring at all?

How long did the base game take you
Really long time the first time around, but just around 20 hours or so on a 2nd playthrough.
Finished the entire thing. It's ... fun? Ish? I liked all the dungeons and challenges they had, but not the major bosses. Too many of the "What the fuck I'm supposed to do with this piece of shit?" type of bosses and there is rarely ever a breathing room. Even at level 16 blessings the last boss is a massive pain in the ass. So the reward for collecting all of these blessings and committing to exploration is that you might survive one more hit from the last boss.

A lot of the bosses are visually interesting, but I think that just gets in the way too much. Every boss is some sort of a spectacle and From now focuses on making it all visually interesting than interesting to engage with. You watch a boss gracefully dance in the air while hitting you with delayed attacks and all you do then is spam rolling unless you are using a shield. Then at best you can land at single attack because someone from From wanted to brag about their creativity. I'm starting to get a feeling that From is more interested in showing off to amaze Redditors than make a fun and fair game.

Also checking comments of negative reviews on Steam is funny as always.
Once again, stellar blade has been the only game that’s impressed me this year. Everything else has either been disappointing or just bad.

I'm enjoying it, gank difficulty aside.

I just beat the lord of the frenzied flame after a bunch of attempts - the hardest boss for me by far. I've beaten ( I think ) all of the others but he was rough. Realised the cheese is to stay right next to him, block twice with shield and counter block on the third hit. Then run from his nuke, if you stick close - he doesn't spam incantations. His boss weapon sucks ass though, was really hoping it'd scale well with faith and have madness build but...it doesn't :(

What's with this non hostile pest up near the church of the crusade?
There are a lot of non-hostile enemies in this DLC which is kind of nice. I always felt like the open world would feel a little less gamey if there were mobs just milling about minding their own business.

I don't get all the complaining outside of technical issues for PC users (lmao master race) but I wasn't expecting the world either, just more Elden Ring.

Bosses making shitters seethe is my favorite thing. This happened with the base game too. MARGIT IS TOO HARD! RADAHN IS TOO HARD! NOW MALIKETH IS TOO HARD! AAAAH!

Then a few weeks or months pass and people figure out how to actually fight and beat the bosses and it turns out they're fine if slightly overtuned.

Curse you, Bayle! I hereby vow! You will rue this day! Behold, a true drake warrior! And I, Igon! Your fears made flesh! Solid of scale you might be, foul dragon... But I will riddle with holes your rotten hide! With a hail of harpoons! With every last drop of my being!
I really like the small Bayle arc. Still can't decide if I hate his bossfight or not, but the build up and the characters involved in it were nice.

I like that Bayle is Moby Dick and Igon is Captain Ahab
WITH A HAIL OF HARPOONS!!!

It's also kino that Bayle still has Placidusax's three severed heads clamped on to him. He tore them off in their battle, and lost three of his limbs as well.
What I appreciate is that it's a very short and sweet ascent to the top of the mountain with a few bosses, instead of a gigantic pile of shit that takes 40 minutes of riding a horse to get through (mountaintop of the giants)

Yep I found a third. I tried healing the sleeping one with an aoe heal but nothing happened. Maybe there's a quest, maybe it's just flavor.

I don't get it either. A lot of the ones in this thread complaining are the ones who didn't like the game that much to begin with so cool thank you for your input.

Does anyone know where the sign for Igon is for the Bayle fight? I got his finger, but I don't see any sign at all in the cluttered mess of rocks. Btw, I like that arc. Specially while I was killing the second dragon and he was shouting in the corner like Ahab. But it's a bit silly that the name for that one NPC is DRAGON MAN.

It's the price of mainstream success. Sekiro was similar with an endless stream of complains about the Chained Ogre mini-boss. Most people lack any type of adaptability and after picking their favorite weapon or sorcery/incantation, they refuse to ever change anything in their build or approach to the fights. While I also understand the lack of respect for summons, there is a certain type of player who internalize the meme that using anything other than colossal weapon jumping attacks is for pussies. If you really cannot beat a boss after 50+ tries, just use the tools at your disposal.

Decades of JRPG bullshit has instilled in me the attitude of "if the game is cheesing the player, the player should cheese it back harder". Sure, I'd like to solo the bosses "properly", but with all the screen-filling stuff they throw out, that's off the table. At the end of the day, I get the achievement no matter what method I use.

Beat the DLC and did whatever quests/dungeons I could find, 24 hours played apparently, genuinely lost track of time the first day.
  • The catacombs are somehow worse than any of the base game's, I genuinely hated my entire experience in them until I fought a boss and had fun with that.
  • The new forge/golem dungeons were alright, interesting they end with you finding a weapon instead of a boss.
  • Wish there were more new enemies, basically everything is reused from the base game, while there is a good number of new bosses you still fight shit like the undulating tree spirits (worst boss)
  • Light Greatswords look alright but I didn't use them, Great Katanas are actually slower than most colossal weapons after they got sped up.
  • FROM still not great at "open world" design, it's not less filled than the base game but that also had large fields of nothing interesting.
  • Furnace Golems are just retarded damage sponges and the ones with leg armor I don't really know what to do against them and don't care, they aren't fun.
  • Very few world NPCs and only three(?) quests.
  • "HOLY FUCK I WENT DOWN A NARROW STAIRCASE AND A GUY TRIED TO PUSH ME OFF FROM AROUND A CORNER WOAH PEAK DESIGN" just stop doing this shit, I always see it coming and it happens all the time in the gaol dungeons.
Didn't try any spells, didn't try most of the weapons, the Onyx colossal sword is pretty cool but I mostly Unga'd my way through with the Ruins Greatsword. The two-hand talisman is like a 15% damage buff but you can't dual wield and it doesn't work with paired weapons.

7.5/10 lower the price to 25/30 bucks.

I’m unashamed in the fact that I use the mimic tear with every fight. It would be different if I downloaded an easy mode mod or something like that, but if the game has a feature, I’ll use it.

That's what I find hilarious. The game has plenty of ways to give yourself an edge, all of which is clearly intended to be used. It's not like you get a bad ending for using Margit's chain or hitting Malenia with an ice pot. From designs their games with the idea that you approach them like a cautious adventurer, using everything you can to give yourself more power and advantages. Dark Souls 1 let you use a sword and a shield and nothing else because it was an easy game with significantly less options in general. The bosses of ER are tuned to be significantly tougher because you have so many more options. Do you think devs would include shit like spells and incants and summons if they didn't want people to use them?

Sekiro, notably, is a game designed around you fighting your bosses in straight up duels of skill, though you can still cheese a bit, and they designed things accordingly.

There is this really faggy honor culture that has developed around Souls games. If you're not soloing a boss with a generic strength build and not using any buffs, incantations, or ranged weapons, then you're not doing it 'right'.

And that's always made me laugh. Trying to be some kind elitist fag because you arbitrarily restrict yourself to some undefined rule of play then coping and sneeding about the game not playing by YOUR rules online is just the gayest thing to me.

It's one thing to want to challenge yourself by placing restrictions on your own play style. I've done it and these games easily facilitate that kind of autism. But I think it's another when you're mad that the game hasn't specifically been designed to cater to this specific subset play style. All that git gud shit posting is all well and good when it's a games journo but when the generic Gutts build autist can't beat Malenia with rolls and pokes From is suddenly pure shit soulslop tortanic garbage worst DLC ever fuck Miyahacki!

I genuinely think ashes are brilliant difficulty control. You can use whatever one you want to give you the edge you want. Sometimes you just need a breather so even the weakest ashes are a good pick so you can simply buy yourself a little room to back off and heal or whatever.

Unlike placed NPC summons there's a better chance you can use whichever one you personally need or want to make the fight as hard or easy as you want it to be.

They put NPC signs inside the boss arena now.

Anyone run the DLC with a max level character? I'm asking because I'm curious how difficult it'd be with something like that.

got filtered on my NG+ faith build. i'm currently working my way back to the DLC on a distinctly not NG+ character. the only multiplayer passcode i have is "kiwi" so just know i'm watching your bloodstains and laughing every time

Feel like I'm playing a different game than everyone else. Most bosses on one try, two max.

All the people sperging about Dancing Divine Beast taking 20 attempts have me a bit confused.

I do not even condemn the Guts autism, but some people expect respect for using restrictive builds while failing to beat game. Winning with Rivers of Blood & Mimic Tear is more tolerable than complaining about unfairness as if you're DSP. I could understand challenge runners complaining about the new bosses, but not the players or streamers who actively restrict themselves for no reason. It's not even honor culture, but a meme meant to piss off people who actually take it seriously. It's like convincing people that parrying and mikiri counter are irrelevant during Sekiro's launch.
