Get well soon, Ruby. I hope he learns his lesson. Motorcycling is retarded. Betting your life that everyone else on the road is paying attention. So stupid lol. Hard to have sympathy. No different from bicyclists on the road. Anyway, hope he recovers and continues to BTFO the pedos.

Here's four reasons why you should wear a jacket, padded pants and riding boots. If I were as lazy about wearing a helmet as I have been about other gear, there'd be a fifth photo in this series of my brains covering the street. I'll definitely be investing in some crush resistant boots as soon as I start riding again.

I had been riding with a shitty Amazon helmet for over a year and dropped it several times before deciding to shill out $600 in a proper one. This was only a couple weeks before the accident. This decision ended up saving my life. Although I was still knocked out from the impact with the road, my head and face came out squeaky clean.

I had skateboarding shoes on which are pretty friction resistant, preventing any road rash on my feet. They're not crush resistant, however. The damage done to my foot was likely caused by the pavement sucking it through a nearly non-existent gap between the foot peg and the asphalt.

Surprisingly the bike isn't too badly damaged. I had just installed new fairings (the old ones had mostly fallen off) and they absorbed most of the impact. Since I low-sided after contacting the car the bike slid without tumbling. My body definitely rolled as it separated from the vehicle, hence the road rash on every side of me. The right handlebar and brake level are filed down, the exhaust is toast and a component covering the engine block seems cracked, but the bike isn't totaled as far as I can tell. Probably $1-2k worth of damage if I do the easy repairs myself. It's a Yamaha R6.

Right now I'm at home covered in bandages and wheelchair bound until my toes and knee heal up. My mom has been the real MVP throughout this whole situation. As soon as she got off the phone with me the night of the crash she got a flight the next morning to take care of me.

I'll spare the details on the driver to simplify the case, though I'll say he's 100% at fault. From what I remember I was about to pass him in the left lane when he merged in front of me, then when I swerved left to avoid him he merged again into the turning lane. I hit the side of his car pretty hard.

Feel free to ask any other questions and I'll try my best to answer them.

What's the ETA on your big response video to the pedo furtroons now?
Also if that guy really was 100% at fault, then faggot deserves to get kiked out of some money for road dumbassery.

Any pics of the bike you are willing to share?

I've always taken the model of ATGATT, all gear all the time. I'm personally a fan of Aerostitch, takes 15 seconds to put a suit on. Sadly you won't be as cool as the guy wearing sandals and shorts passing you at 150mph.

Smartest decision you have ever made. Though sometimes price =/= quality. Know Arai had a bunch of helmets that were only DOT certified for the longest time (now remedied). So on the next helmet search (well I hope you aren't going to reuse it). Make sure you get a SNELL approved helmet. DOT standard is a low bar to meet, SNELL helmets have an even higher safety requirement.

Safer riding in the future. Keep up the good work. Never trust a car driver, after a few too many close calls I chose to hang up my gear.

Fault doesnt matter if he didnt have a go pro or a witness. shoulda beeped or pulled the clutch and revved the first time the SUV merged. Riding like a squid on a sport bike is why they call them donor cycles. I hope it doesnt need to be said, but you cannot use that helmet again. If its a modern high end helmet the inside crushed to absorb the impact even if the outside isnt cracked its useless for future accidents.

Same 😉

Hey, friendly reminder to people that when you're at an intersection don't just do a quick spot look to see if someone is on the perpendicular. Instead, slow the head/eye movement down just a bit when you're checking to see if there's anyone there. Human vision is a giant illusion and it's extremely easy for something that we would presume to be obviously visible (like a motorcycle) to be invisible.

I have a knee jerk reaction to stuff like this to blame car drivers for being oblivious to motorcyclists (or for being on their fucking phones) But the truth is, often human vision just sucks.
There are zero (0) people on the planet who ride a crotch rocket and don't zip around like a faggot retard mongoloid on public roads ignoring traffic laws and saying "it won't happen to me." You're not fooling anybody, we all know why you bought your gay little toy and we all know what you do with it, you're the worst of both cyclists and ricers and you deserve whatever you get.

To your recollection, did the driver seem like he was intending to move to your lane (from a feeling) or was it like a sudden swerve like he wasn't looking at all?

I know you said it was 100% his fault I'm just trying to gauge if a more keen eyed rider would have caught this faulty driver's actions.

Man I hope he makes a full recovery. Motorcycle accidents are a bitch. Plenty of those happen even while stationary. Been there, done that.
Just FYI for any kiwis riding on two wheels - protective equipment is not limited to the helmet. Gloves, Pads, Jackets are cheap, fairly comfortable and could save your life. Gloves especially are a must. Sweaty palms and rubber grips don't mix well.
