So I'm watching this ultra-long segment on the Daxiverse, and I have a majorly huge question. Answers would be appreciated.
Does anyone know or care who Dick Masterson is? Is he relevant? Was he ever?
I understand that he's basically the equivalent of a human demon from hell who is wrong about everything and has an uncanny ability to completely corrupt the people around him...but is that it? That's all?
I first heard about him through listening to Mad at the Internet, Rekieta's 2022ish streams, and now the Kino Casino. I assumed all four of these people randomly used to watch Dax's youtube channel, and kind of became scorned ex-fans (or just stayed fans in Rekieta's case). But I never thought there'd be enough legitimate public interest to justify the 50+ total hours of video commentary I've watched about this guy and his friends since then.
The worst part is, there's no depth to the story. There's absolutely nothing interesting about it; what you see is what you get. Anything that could be interesting, like the unanswered question of why he's on this bizarre jihad against Eric July, will be talked around to death but never directly addressed. You're never going to get a nugget as to why any of this happened.
Every Dax story ends as soon as it begins.
This whole story reminds me of an obsession with a personal lolcow, youtuber / failed streamer / future failed stand up comedian Wineboxpapi. He's degenerate from concentrate. He loves porn, trannies, abusing steroids, wasting money on superbikes, and generally being wrong about everything. For the life of me, I wouldn't know how to make his story interesting to you. If he inexplicably started harassing an author, my problem would be double because not only can I not explain why he's interesting, but I can't even explain why the story is happening. In this case, the last thing I'd want to do is produce hours of hours of commentary, updates and coverage.
From what I understand from trying tirelessly to make sense of this, there was an author called Maddox who published funny books when people in their mid to late 30s were in high school, and these people became fans of Maddox. Maddox later cohosted a streaming show with Dax, and they fell out and this resulted in a sensational lawsuit that launched Rekieta's career as a then-facebook-streamer.
And that's it?
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, or missing some massively huge part of the story that would make it worth knowing. I've never been more confused about so many people's obsession with one person. Yes, he's sucks and he's the worst, but how do you get blood from a stone? How do you get discussion material out of that?
I wish one of these streamers who talk so much about him would explain who he is and why so many people care about him. Was he famous before? Did he do something people liked? He seems like current day Rekieta minus the past success and past fanbase/views.
