Decided to play the first one on my Switch, very fun, though it’s hard to get used to (first time playing really anything Sonic fully, outside of this Wii U game I had called Sonic’s Lost World that I never finished).

I recommend Sonic Mania, a great game overall that often goes on sale for $5-10. The biggest criticism is that it brings back level themes from past games, but that won't matter if you're not familiar with them anyway.

I've always had a weird fondness for the original game. I think building up speed, even in the platforming levels, feels good without having to rely on the spindash. The 3DS version looks amazing and it sucks getting it isn't easy anymore.

Why is ProJared’s video even in this collection? IIRC his conclusion was that SA2’s speed stages and Chao Garden were fun, but the rest of the game sucked cocks, which is a conclusion that not only most normal people came to, but even other Sonic YouTubers like Somecallmejohnny.
I’m so fucking sick of the current day Sonic community. They bitch and moan about the games that don't deserve it over the dumbest shit imaginable while soyfacing over some of the worst entries without any sort of nuance or critical thinking. The popular YouTubers are far more annoying and spergy than the ones from before. At least people like Clement, Johnny and Cobanermani (before he became a Diet Etika schizo) seemed like normal people, you can't say the same about Splash Dash, ChaoMix, Pariah "Muh Japanese Sonicerinoos" 695, Sam Procastinates, premydaremy, etc. Their "humor" consists of the gayest safe edgy shit like SnapCube, TurboJehtt, and making random characters wave Palestinian flags. And that's not to say anything about the LGBTQ+ members, the strange fetish shit or the horrible IDW comic.
As someone who also grew up in this horrific age where JonTron and Egoraptor were rounding up Sonic fans and sending them to labor camps, I know for a fact that nobody fucking cared about what other YouTubers thought and that Sonic was a well liked game series. The people who are crying over this shit likely weren't bullied because they liked Sonic, they were probably bullied because they were insufferable weird fags that no one wanted to be around. It's a fucking shame other fanbases have taken over Sonic's spot as the most embarrassing fandom because if there's any time this fandom needed bullying, its now. It's especially sad because outside of the fans I feel like Sonic has been in its best position in a long time. The movies have been a strong success and I'm sure that Sonic 3 will follow in its predecessors footsteps. Sure, the Knuckles miniseries wasn't amazing but it was at least enjoyable for what it was, a far cry from the "ZOMG IT'S THE WORST THING EVARRRR" that a lot of the fans have been saying. The games have also been decent as of late, I enjoyed Sonic Dream Team, I enjoyed what I played of the Sonic Rumble beta, and despite what a lot of people have been saying in the thread I'm also pretty optimistic about Shadow Generations. Too bad the fanbase can't match up.

Only stages I ever had any issue with back when I played the game as a kid and even today was the timed vault stage and MAYBE mad space, though once you get mad space's gimmick it becomes pretty easy (unless you get fucked by the physics which happens more in the half assed ports of ports that the currently available versions are) As I've gotten older over the years I've come to kinda appreciate shit a bit more in terms of SA2's non speed level designs. Like I ALREADY liked them but I understand a lot of the frustrating bits in stages and some small UI changes like the radar are actual intended challenge, not an oversight.

Maybe I'm just biased towards pretty solid platformers that are easy but have a little bit of a challenge if you wan to get higher ranking to unlock extras and several different styles of play. I dunno.

Spoiler: MECH STAGE THOUGHTS/OPINIONS

The mech stages are a much more elaborate and weighty version of Gamma's gameplay in adventure and it always bugged me how review guys like gamma but don't like the mechs because "oh the mechs are too slow!!!" I've watched friends that parrot the sentiment install speed mods because that's the "definitive way to play" and then keep fucking careening off the edges of platforms because the stages are built around the weighty physics. I don't WANT something that's much bigger than gamma to move the same velocity and have the same weight as him, there's a cognitive disconnect that occurs when you do shit like that. Gamma's speed and movement makes sense, he's a spindly robot man with wheels in his feet. The SA2 mechs are chicken walkers made out of literal aircraft parts. That's not gonna move the same! May or may not have rambled about this before I'm too lazy to check. Still never gonna forget when I first popped in the game and started up the dark story cause I could play as robotnik/eggman and immediately being greeted with Eggman just fucking massacring a whole UN military base

Spoiler: EMERALD RADAR

Emerald radar shit is nerfed because you wouldn't have time to appreciate the stage first time around if you just immediately knew where all of them were with how large the stages are. Once you know the stage layout after the first playthrough, a single hint box per emerald shard and some guesswork/observation can get the stage done incredibly faster even without a radar. The stages were also specifically MADE for knuckles' game style instead of SA1 where it was mostly just stages sonic had but with emeralds put in random spots. Like yeah it can get irritating not having ALL emeralds doing the blinky shit at once but I never really had too much issue with it being altered to be less hand-holdy.

It's because he was supposed to be a one off villain. he got a worse version of the shadow treatment but unlike shadow he doesn't really have a good reason to come back.

Then again people also forget the little generic animals that pop out of the robots in the classic games are supposed to be named characters that know sonic and are friends with him. One of them is literally named cucky the chicken.
Still, if dobson-esque shits at play with these current writers lesbian obsession, they might also be getting off to this shit.
