North Korean troops that are sent to Ukraine to aid in Russia's war would become "cannon fodder," the Pentagon said.

Pentagon Press Secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said on Tuesday that "I think that if I were North Korean military personnel management, I would be questioning my choices on sending my forces to be cannon fodder in an illegal war against Ukraine."

Ryder was responding to a question about North Korea potentially dispatching army engineering units to Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region, which is occupied by Russia.
According to South Korea's TV Chosun, citing a South Korean government official and referenced by Reuters, North Korea is planning to send construction and engineering forces to occupied Ukraine as soon as next month for rebuilding work.

Earlier this month, Russia and North Korea signed a pact agreeing to give each other military assistance if the other is attacked.

Countries including the US and Japan condemned the move, with South Korea saying it was considering sending weapons to Ukraine as a result. South Korea's president described the pact as a threat to his nation's security.

Ryder described North Korea potentially sending military forces to Russia as "certainly something to keep an eye on," and hinted at the high number of Russian casualties throughout the war.

The UK Ministry of Defence said at the end of May that the total number of killed or wounded Russian soldiers since February 2022 was around 500,000.

It also said that the average daily number of Russian personnel casualties in May was over 1,200.

Russia is known for treating its own troops as highly disposable.

This includes through using "meat wave" tactics, where it sends waves of poorly trained and unsupported soldiers toward Ukrainian positions to try to overwhelm them.

A Russian soldier who plans offensives said this month that he has to send men forward knowing they will likely die, but doesn't tell them how low their chances of survival are.

"I can't tell the men, otherwise they wouldn't fight with the hope of winning," he said.

When people complain that they don't read articles anymore, this is one example of why. I can tell this article is trash just on the headline because it requires complete ignorance of geography. Aside from buying ammo from the North Koreans, Russia doesn't need their troops and won't transport them; that is North Korea's responsibility. Since North Korea has their own command structure and territory to defend.

"Human wave" tactics is US propaganda cope for why they're losing the Russo-Ukraine war. One that's actually detrimental to the US military as it's a refusal to learn how the battlefield there actually is.

Imagine being a North Korean and then dying for rich Oligarchs getting Ukraine and Putin's Russian empires dreams.

Tbf, Russian casualties are fucking insane when compared to modern military tactics. Even Vietnam, which was a total shitshow, and has 5 times less the amount of deaths despite taking over 7 times the length.

Stop noticing and be afraid of this newer axis of evil 🙃

What is going on in Ukraine is less Vietnam and more Iran-Iraq War. This time instead of trench warfare with jets being the new thing its trench warfare with drones.

Issue is that Russia is supposed to be a world power while Ukraine are peasants with rockets launchers. If anything it should have been Gulf War 2 but that would make the difference in casualties even more ridiculous. Modern (western) armies are build so you have elite fighting men supported each by 20 people, getting to 100,000 in casualties will make the entire structure collapse.
NK is probably just going to send their undesirables from their political prisons to the frontlines. When you besmirch Glorious Leader instead of Prison you get sent to the Ukraine meat grinder.
Not unlikely, but you don't want your undesirables to gain military experience and more information far from your control.

North Korea wave attacks almost won the Korean War. It was enough for United nation and United states forces to back off invading the north.
Yeah that wasn't the Koreans so much as the US foolishly keeping MacArthur in power while he pontificated about nuking the Chinks and the Chinese engaging in human wave attacks that would make the Russians of a prior generation blush at how blatant their disregard for human life was.

Don’t worry. They won’t have access to social media and mobile devices unlike the Chinese netizens and Indians they’ve sent over this past year. No more begging to the North Korean embassy for return to the glorious homeland.

Russia is stronger then Ukraine in terms of total overall military ability it's just that they seem to of underestimated how effective Ukrainian resistance would be against their initial attacks. They had that big attempt at a knockout blow on Kiev/Kyiv that failed spectacularly and resulted in their troops being pushed back across the border.

They invaded with a force either equivalent to or slightly smaller then what Ukraine was fielding at the time. The Ukrainians had been building up their military in terms of size and firepower ever since what happened with Crimea and the Donbass War in 2014 as well so that is something to keep in mind.

Ukraine has been kept afloat by the efforts of their soldiers and Western arms but in the long term even if the Russians take tons of casualties, just due to the population differences between the two countries unless anything changes politically they will win in a war of attrition. The days of fast and easy gains are gone unless some offensive absolutely smashes its way through some defensive lines. Both sides are dug in heavily at this point and taking anything is a blood-filled slog.

To illustrate my point here is a territorial map for the war in November 2022:

Here is the map in March 2024:

Vietnam is not the least bit analogous to the current war. Israel's war on Hamas is more like Vietnam.
