My theory about Cecily's few boosters--like Lynette Young, Marcy Massura and Kelby Carr--is that they only hang out with Cecily because she makes them feel so much better about themselves. I also have it from a couple of solid sources that they have taken pity on her more than anything--none of them actually like her. They're overweight, plain/ugly (depending on your view) women who have scammed their way into making money off this whole social trend and they like looking down on the obese trashy bitch who never figured out how to do that.
And if you ask Cecily, she has a "successful career" and "runs a small agency." Yet she couldn't make her bankruptcy payments--a measly $320/month, IIRC--or house payment, lost her home, and lives in a rental in the ghetto. She's spinning hard, but going nowhere.
Ha! Dresden Shumaker was one of Cecily's enablers for a while (Dresden is on the bottom right in the apple pic). She and Sarah Bloom (mentioned in another comment above as floating Cecily a loan in 2010 t0 keep her phone on, as well as many other loans that she never got paid back) were the reasons Tori had Christmas and birthday gifts and when they both had had enough of being a bank from which loans were taken but never repaid, suddenly Tori was getting filthy secondhand keyboards purchased last minute from a pawnshop as her sole gift on Christmas Day.
Sarah and Dresden both are kind of weird in their own rights. Sarah's an edgy photographer, Dresden is a messy, single by choice stay at home mom, and both seemed superficially well suited to Cecily's way of life. But both women work hard at their professions and have their own families to take care of. Dresden, for all her faults, lives with and takes care of her mother and genuinely loves her little boy and makes sure he has a nice life, albeit in a house I want a maid service to come and overhaul with a flamethrower. They have very little in common with Cecily than proximity to her and certain values that make them different than the average old school mommy bloggers. Neither will come out and tell their stories and will be cordial online but both are sick of Cecily and gave her far more than she ever gave back.
Jo-ann Rogan's another one who will virtue signal when Cecily becomes the temporary bloated fat face of mid to late term abortion, as happens every couple of years. She'll talk about how she's proud to be Cecily's friend. But she's been absent from Cecily's life, too. Jo-ann, punkymama on Twitter and the lead singer of the punk bank Thorazine, will show up in pictures with Cess when Cecily comes to her shows but zero interaction beyond that. In 2013, she hosted Tori's birthday party at her home and pool when it became clear Cecily wasn't going to do much for the kid - the party was a month late. Since then it's been crickets - if they are friends beyond "yay, abortions for all" stuff on Twitter, Jo-ann keeps it on the down low.
(On another note, I don't know if it was at that party or another one but another of Tori's birthday gatherings had several adults and kids, all wet and in swimsuits, gathered around as Tori opened gifts and cut the cake, etc. Cecily was filming everyone around Tori and an adult asked her what she was doing. Cecily was all, "Oh just taking a film for us for later" or some similar comment. Of course all the adults looking like shit and their scantily clad kids in wet bathing suits appeared online because Cecily uploaded the video. From that point on, the only kids we ever saw around Cecily was the offspring of the family who made artisan bacon, christened on GOMI as the Little Bacon Girl. Tori had a roller derby friend who looked much older than she was and was evidently neglected enough that she turned to Cecily, of all people, for supervision. But Cecily exploited that girl's appearance, a cute pre-teen coated in make-up and far too old to be having sleepovers with Tori, and put her face all over her Facebook and Instagram until the girl's parents realized what was happening and CHOINKed her out of Tori's life, too. It's not just money that parents lose when they are around her - Cecily poses a very real threat to parents who'd prefer strangers not masturbate to images of their children found in Cecily's social media.)
Lynette Young is a whining, ridiculous woman-child and her antics online are lolcowish, but even she keeps a distance. Lynette has an actual career of sorts and being friends with Cecily is a problem professionally, after all the conference scandals, the times Cecily refused to pay her share in hotel rooms, when Cecily "forgot" her wallet at dinner, all the missed deadlines and fucked over clients. All the online begging. Lynette views Cecily as an underprivileged fat monkey woman and she gives her head pats from time to time but Cecily will never be invited to her home, permitted to go to lunch with her at a nice restaurant or do much with her that can affect her professionally.
The list of people Cecily has fucked over, borrowed huge sums from then never repaid, shuffled off her maternal duties to with zero gratitude is long and filled with women who are well-versed in the idea that if they want their skeletons to remain closeted, they don't talk about what Cecily does openly because they could end up with scrutiny on themselves. But behind the scenes, stories abounded. Evidently there were rumors (possibly started by former GOMI-er and borderline assclown JalamityCane) that some of Cecily's then-close friends were planning an intervention of sorts to confront her on her lies, financial misdeeds, and all around foul behavior but I never heard what came of it.
