CNN Presidential Debate 2024 - LIVE: THURSDAY 9PM EST

(L/A)

Millions of viewers are set to tune in to the first presidential debate of the 2024 election on June 27, a rematch between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.
The first debate is hosted by CNN, while the second in September will be hosted by ABC. Viewers can watch the first debate live on Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on CNN, CNN International, CNN en Español, and CNN Max. It will be available to stream without a cable login on CNN.com. It is expected to run for 90 minutes.

The network has said it will also provide a feed of its production to other networks and digital outlets, the LA Times reports, but will require competitors to adhere to a number of conditions—including adding the network’s on-screen logo and refraining from adding their own anchors and commentators during the breaks or any other portion of the broadcast.

Presidential debates are typically one of the most watched broadcasts of the year in the U.S. More than 73 million people watched the first presidential debate between Trump and Biden in September 2020.
Several new rules, which have already been approved by both candidates, will be introduced to prevent a repeat of the first presidential debate of the 2020 election, which largely veered off track. Microphones will be muted, and the candidates will meet on stage without a live audience for the first time.

The debate will also feature a pair of commercial breaks during the 90-minute broadcast, bucking a debate tradition in which advertisements were not permitted under the rules established by the non-partisan Commission on Presidential Debates, which traditionally governs the debates.
“We’re going to look back at this debate and we'll see some good and some bad,” says Patrick Stewart, a political science professor at the University of Arkansas. “The good will be that the candidates can't game the system and turn it into a pro wrestling match. The bad part is we’ve commercialized the debates as opposed to serving the public good.”

I’m really looking forward to this. Not because of a love of Trump, but more because Biden is often insulated from the consequences of his retarded policy decisions and this is probably the only scenario where someone’s just gunna tell him that’s he’s an old, senile retard who’s fucked up your country. Everybody will watch it, everyone will know, and he’ll be humiliated like he should be.

So... Do they fear that Trump pull out a sneaky and escalate the debate so that Biden eventuallt dies after?
Pretty sure that the last time that stunt worked was back in 1978, when pope Giovanni Paolo died the night after an heated discussion with a guy he had to fire...

Trump might just kill him on stage by making some crass remarks about Biden wishing he lost Hunter instead of Beau.

I am really looking forward to the Trump vs Tapper interview.
Both of them are skilled debaters so the debate should be interesting to watch.

I find it odd how assymetric it is though. It seems odd that Tapper can mute Trumps mic but Trump can not mute Tappers mic.
Very strange.

It will be about Trump's felon status, Biden's inflation, the weaponization of several agencies, Ukraine/Russia, Israel/Palestine, and racism. I predict that Biden will gaffe or expose himself while CNN keeps on going.

I don't really give a shit about the subjects of the debate, because no matter what happens it's going to be funny. I've got a bet going with a friend of mine, 5 bucks says Trump gets cut off 1 too many times and just fucking leaves them to cope and sneed

The 2-minute delay means that they can cover up a lot of Bidens fuck-ups. And the "Commercial Breaks" are blatantly so a medical team can pop in to re-medicate him.

Wouldn't be surprised if he's sporting an earpiece for them to feed him canned answers to the softball questions they'll give him.

I'm just hoping it's entertaining. Best case is that Trump gets him tilted enough that he loses it on stage.

Don't forget the green lights on the podiums because counting time and paying attention to the moderator is too hard for one of the candidates.
