Democrats are despairing over President Joe Biden’s debate performance Thursday night, a showing so halting some even privately raised questions about whether he should remain the party’s nominee.

Biden appeared onstage with a soft, halting voice and an open-mouthed, staring look. He struggled to finish thoughts at points, and ceded ground on issues like abortion where Democrats have an edge.

It took just minutes for Democrats to realize how bad it was becoming.

“Biden looks and sounds terrible. He’s incoherent,” one Democrat who spent time working in the Biden administration said.

“Horrific,” said another Democratic operative.

And one Democrat who’s worked on campaigns up and down the ballot said simply: “We are f***ed.”

The looming question as the debate came to a close was almost existential: Should someone else top the Democratic ticket?

“It’s hard to argue that Biden should be our nominee,” said an operative who’s worked on campaigns at all levels for over a decade.

This debate was historic for many reasons, but not least because it is taking place before each man is formally nominated at their respective conventions. The Democratic National Convention is set to convene August 19 in Chicago.

Democrats have spent much of the past year handwringing about Biden’s chances of beating Trump in an election many view as an existential one that will decide the very survival of American democracy. But Biden himself was determined to be the one to take on Trump, at one point even saying directly: “If Trump wasn’t running, I’m not sure I’d be running.”

No serious Democratic challengers stepped up to run against Biden, and at this point in the campaign he’d have to decide to step aside if Democrats were to pick another nominee. If Biden did withdraw, the Democratic nomination would be decided on the floor.

Democrats were even talking about who it might be instead: “If I was Gavin (Newsom) or Gretchen (Whitmer), I’d be making calls tonight,” one said.

Why do people honestly want Newsom to run? The DNC should know that if he took on the other 49 states, they would call him out on the downward spiral that is California, especially this year.
He is the only Democrat that is widely known, not a shambling corpse and has an iota of charisma.

Take all of his blunders, and then realize that's the least pathetic candidate the DNC could put forward.

I've talked to some foreign friends of mine and they're like 'Aren't there any Democrats at all that can win at the top?' I just said maybe Newsom, and even he won't fly outside the west coast and north east at all. They're amazed at how bad the Democrat field is now. The Republicans right now actually have a decent one, I can think of several that would stand a chance and do ok.

It's too late for the Dems to change candidate now. The normal thing would be to swap Biden out for Kamala but she simply ceased to exist after inauguration day 4 years ago because she'd served her purpose of making the old white man more palatable to Democrat voters.

Seriously, i'm not in the US and she has literally never been in the news internationally for anything during her entire VP term. Even liberal news outlets gave up in her once they realised that she wouldn't be having weekly twerk-parties on the front lawn of the White House because she's a successful black person, not a hoodrat-done-good like they prefer.

Trump is going to win handily and do fuck all for his term, the same as last time. We'll get some good memes out of it at least.

All those attempts by Obama's and Clinton's faction to squash any and all upcoming talent and only raise toadies that do not challenge their power has consequences who knew. Bet they wish they had someone like John Edwards right now.

Harris is on American news, but it's only ever when she has verbal gaffs as bad as Biden's. Biden is senile but Harris has negative charisma and room temperature IQ.

But the main factor here is probably just Trump insisting they have to stand for the debate. He let Hillary sit at one of their debates, and lorded over her by 2 feet as he walked around, getting all sorts of pissed off articles from the MSM about it. But he wanted Biden to have to stand for ninety minutes. Biden looked much worse after the last ad break; they probably had him sit down for a moment, then getting back up just destroyed whatever energy he had left.
In the main US Politics / Joe Biden thread, @Gehenna had a theory too -- that Trump was intentionally veering into still-on-topic-but-tangential-points, which destroyed Biden's ability to just use memorized talking points, forcing him instead to think about answers on the fly and reply.

Which Biden, well, can't do.

Am i the only one who couldn't help but feel bad for Biden? He's been gone since well before getting elected. This shit just feels like elder abuse.
Biden has been a well known asshole, bully, corrupt as fuck monster career politician scumfuck who is on film repeatedly molesting and creeping on children who cannot escape as they're literally being held down by their parents, IN PUBLIC, in front of crowds of hundreds if not thousands of people and journalists -- who all, to a man, agreed not to say a god damned thing, for decades. Who has at least one credible rape accusation that involved him being so used to just walking up and shoving his fingers in Interns' pussies that he was completely stunned when a coworker objected. That openly joked about blackmailing a foreign country into stopping an investigating into his son using foreign aid as a bargaining chip, ON CAMERA, because it was such an open secret that he didn't give a shit who knew. A son that has made a career out of selling access to his father, state secrets, and embezzling foreign aid so it's sent back to the US and friends as bribes to the elites -- with Joe getting 10% off the top. Who has spent the past 4 years politically persecuting his political enemies up to and including the leader of the opposition party and a former president, who they apparently had every intention of murdering if they could find a justification during the raid.

I fee bad for Biden only in the abstract. The man deserves the hell he's in, and there's a deeper, darker, and brimstone filled hell waiting for him ... any day now.

Thi whole debate feels like it was all set up by the DNC establishment to get an excuse to dump Biden. Stubborn old fuck never seemed to get the hint so they gave him this public humiliation.
I don't know. I think they genuinely believed their own hype. You could see it on the debate moderators a few minutes in, when they realized "oh shit, he really DOES have dementia." They genuinely thought he would rush in and pull the Biden Bully Blitz that he's done for decades, get some zinger sound bytes off on Trump, maybe get Trump to lose his temper, etc etc. Everything, absolutely everything, was set up for that. They even let it slip that they gave Biden the questions beforehand to prepare on them. I feel what we're seeing is a DNC that had completely pushed every and all criticisms of anything off to the side as "MAGA Fascist Cheapfake Misinfo: To be ignored forever" and well, reality has a well known Conservative bias.

The man admitted to having a worm in his brain. His career is over, he just doesn't know it yet. He will, however, be blamed for Biden losing, since the alternative is the DNC and Uniparty taking some form of blame, and that won't fucking happen.

Plus, he ran as an independent, right? And not a fake indy like Bernie for salesmanship reasons, yeah? That was him betraying the party; they'll never let him back in.

His career is over.

Michelle likes her family and lifestyle too much to go for it. She saw the attacks on Barry and won't want to get involved in the shitshow.
Michael is a black supremacist to the point that he can't hide it even in hostile company anymore. He's also a retarded black tranny who has bought into the "I'm black so I'm an exemption for all bad word definitions" thing, which only amplifies the problem. Even if he wanted to run -- and he doesn't, he's got way more power not in office than he would in office -- there's no way they'd risk it. All it would take is one high profile dindu like Michael going mask off on the fuck whitey shit to the point they couldn't cover it up or ignore it -- something like a debate where he goes off on Trump for being white, then doubles down when Trump calls him racist. Imagine this week's debate only it not only wakes the normies up to the Black Supremacist shit growing in America, but that they're unrepentant, proud of it, and it's to the point that political leaders buy into it. It would be a complete disaster for many, many Jewish tricks in progress -- immigration, fucking up education to indoctrinate kids into anti-white anti-west beliefs, DEI, etc -- so they won't risk it.

I thought we all knew Biden was a mess since before he got elected but Democrats were just ignoring it cause they hated Trump so much, but then why acknowledge it now? I mean he wasn't good during the debate but he's had plenty of worse moments, so what changed? Were they actually delusional this whole time and thought he was fine for years?
A) yes, the pundits were exactly this delusional, or at least coped to tell themselves it was all out of context clips and/or he was bad, but not that bad.
B) this scares them this time around because the pandemic is over, they can't have him campaign from his basement again and carefully manage his media exposure, so considering he's only going to get worse as time goes by, now a lot of them are shitting themselves that the race might not be close enough for fraud to make up the difference.

Very good points.. I should reword that. In general i find it gross how an old, no longer mentally there man is being treated by his friends, family and handlers. Fuck him specifically though.

I mean he wasn't good during the debate but he's had plenty of worse moments, so what changed? Were they actually delusional this whole time and thought he was fine for years?
We all knew that. The left had no fucking idea. Not only were they ignoring it, the left controlled media (read: all of the media in the West) was actively suppressing it. They even made up a new catchy, marketing approved term for "clip of Biden that makes him look bad we want you to ignore": A "Cheapfake."

They're acknowledging it now because they literally can't ignore it. 48 million people saw Biden live on CNN act like an old man that had escaped his social worker and wandered on stage. Millions more saw it on other channels, on streaming services, and on live react streams that CNN gave up trying to stop. Millions more are going to see the clips, like that 90 second one of nothing but Biden stammering like an idiot with ominous music behind it that one of the Trump PACs put out.

They can't cover this up. The mask is off. The emperor has no clothes and he shit his adult diapers again. The fact that they haven't had a unified response -- did their retarded token black dyke even do a press meeting on Friday, or did they skip that one? -- suggests a lot of the insiders had no fucking idea how bad it was, had thought they'd drug him up and it'd be like the State of the Union, where he was incoherent but wired and an fighty asshole so they could just clip zingers or something. But he couldn't even give them that.

Zelisky talks to trump mentions that biden and his son were up to shit in his country, and would trump like them to look into it.

The very next day biden says he wants to run for president, the official narrative was evil orange man was asking forgien powers to interfer with political rivals.

Covid and the hysteria about orange hilter got the old herd moving in one direction and goal get rid of trump!
Bill and Hillary ran for president like a decade before Bill actually won. The reason? They were going to indict or investigate Bill and Hillary for... something. Forget what. But realistically, the DOJ can't touch a presidential candidate, even if he's not going to win the nomination.

The second it becomes apparent that Trump knows what Hunter was up to, Biden HAD to run for office to protect himself and his criminal enterprise. By doing so, he became untouchable by Trump's DOJ, because the party in charge CANNOT go after the other party's candidates or nominee, that would be a political crisis that would threaten to tear apart the gentleman's agreement that our unofficial two party system is based on.

Remember, Hunter was just one elite spawn getting absurdly high paying consultancy jobs in the Ukraine that he had no relevant job experience. Pelosi and Romney both had either kids or close family members over there doing the same thing. They ALL were doing it. The Ukraine was the US Elites' embezzlement scheme, and Trump found out. Frankly, I'm surprised they didn't kill him. I still think they might before February.

It would be hilarious if the first thing Trump does when he gets in power is set up some special prosecutors to start going after people. Find some loyal lawyers who are real assholes and will happily dig as deep as they can to ruin people's lives over forgetting to file a fucking memo on the right color paper or what have you.

Why do people honestly want Newsom to run?
From the Kamala article I posted earlier:
There’s also the fact that Harris, despite a rocky couple of years in the polls, still has the highest name ID of any plausible Biden replacement. A recent POLITICO poll found that 41 percent of Democratic voters chose Harris as a hypothetical 2028 nominee. The next closest was Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, with 15 percent, and Newsom, with 14 percent.
Oof. Look at those three options and it's clear why Newsom's name keeps getting mentioned. I know it's for a 2028 matchup, but imagine what the current polls show.

I think the Democrats having a large population concentrated in a much smaller number of states screws them for presidential candidates to a degree. Usually it's a governor or someone with executive experience you want and they have fewer to draw from.

A lot of the mayors running some of those megalopolises are getting executive experience on par with that of many state governors, their problem is that the urban core has so radically shifted left compared to everywhere else in the country that red populations view them as anathema, and even a lot of the purple suburbs surrounding them only tolerate proximity to the leadership there because the city is where all the jobs are.
Their talent pool grows in a bubble of one-party areas and that simply isn't true of Republicans who ascend beyond like state representative-tier positions with a sum total population of 50,000 people. They are forced to politick more/better.

I don't know about you guys, but unfortunately, I'm going to have to listen to my Dad and even my Mom to an extent doom and gloom over David Axelrod potentially inserting our governor Pigster or Big Michael into the race who in their eyes will utterly "destroy" Trump because apparently, much of the democratic voterbase still sees the Obama family as literal "gods."

I was reading the David Samuels article that @General Emílio Médici posted in the US politics general thread and discussing it with someone and I mentioned to her that Obama only became governor (EDIT: senator) through sheer chance and fucking Star Trek.

It’s hazy in my mind but basically the guy who won the republican nomination was married to Jeri Ryan (that borg character from the second worst Star Trek series, after Discovery) and he was into some kinky shit like making her go to sex clubs and do exhibitionist shit in public (your classic Nick Rekieta type, sans cocaine). This was dropped during the election, he was forced to resign, the state republican committee pulled some nobody out of their ass, and Obama came out smelling like roses compared to that other guy.

I also bring this up because in the article I referenced at the beginning of this post, David Garrow stated that Obama’s term as governor (edit: senator) wasn’t really about getting shit done; it was simply a “credentialing moment”. It was a stepping stone on the way to a White House run. That’s the mindset a lot of these hacks have and always had though; they don’t get elected to office so they can make substantive policy changes and change their communities for the better. They just want to win a state or federal election so they can say they have experience when they try running for president.

My Boomer lib parents mostly get weepy about the election and don't want to talk about it. I'm doing my best to bite my tongue because I know we disagree, and I still love them, but Mom lost her shit over the NYT finally turning on Biden yesterday and is panicking about right wing death squads next winter. Dad's clinging hardcore onto the "he just had a cold" cope.
Hitting the point where your parents start looking like flawed human beings instead of heroes is rough.
