Steve1989MREInfo / Steve1989 / Steve Thomas - that guy that eats old MREs

Man, I'm sure it's been said elsewhere, but the menus, the prototypes especially, seeing how they've evolved over time, gotten more nutrient dense, lighter, tastier, more varied in menu, changed to reflect the Mexicanization of the military, has made me appreciate one thing about the US. We really care about our soldiers, way more than other countries that actually fight wars. I mean yeah we send them off to die for Israel or whomever, but we're sending them off with better shit to eat at least. Like the French and Italian MREs looked fantastic, but they're impractical, use the sterno heaters, can't be eaten on the go, etc. And then you see the meals from our military-strategic rivals and they tend to look awful, and reflect the piss poor state of food manufacture over there. But there is a massive industrial complex in the US that is constantly trying to outdo itself to make what sounds insane, lightweight, desirable shelf stable meals that taste a little better than "good enough."

I can't help but die a little inside when the MRE is some form of non-American dish with the name explicitly being a non-USA country. Like the food should be represent the country you are risking your life defending and in this case it's fucking Cuban food that looks the same way it will exit.
That wouldn't work out for some countries, like I can't imagine my national dish or general national cuisine making for a delicious MRE.
If I were a soldier getting sent to my death, I'd like to eat something that soothes my soul and gives me the strength to kill people with my bare hands, not potatoes and gravy.

My guess is that it is not for US soldiers, but for the illegals they will recruit to fight for the judeo-bolshevik establishment later this year.

Mexicanization
I agree with this but Mexican food is cheap, flavorful, and made from ingredients that are already very shelf stable. Steve seemed to enjoy the Cuban food a lot. Practically licked the tray clean.

I noticed the color temp was off in the reserve ration video, turns out a segment was filmed all the way back in 2019. Wonder how many totally complete videos he has stashed that he could have uploaded during his like year hiatus.

I'm not knocking the food at all, there's just a lot of new ethnics in the army and their tastes are being catered to, which is kind of remarkable, he even mentioned a thai curry

I'm pretty sure there isn't a sudden influx of Thais. You have to go back to the '80s or so before the dishes are just endless repeats of shit like ground beef, diced beef, chicken a la king, beef stew, chicken stew, cubed chicken in shit sauce, etc. etc. etc.

There have been things like fajitas, teriyaki, sweet and sour chicken, chili, enchiladas, etc. for decades.

Good God Almighty. The Civil War hardtack was one thing, but is this the oldest animal protein he's eaten on channel? The butter seems a bit uncharacteristic, usually he's into just using the ingredients that were originally available. I mean, I don't blame him, but it seems unnecessary judging from the way he wolfed it down. His GI tract will be in my prayers tonight.
Assuming you're talking about the canned corned beef; that's new production. I bought a can of the stuff a few weeks ago at the supermarket.

Especially that red bean paste 'anti hypoxia' bar. No fucking way I would ever touch that. Theres no telling what the chinese put in that shit
At least he wasn't insane enough to eat the 15 years out of date "fried pork rice".

I don't think he'll ever forget what happened to him after eating the last PLA MRE. I loved how he kept teasing that he was going to take a bite, though.

That actually looked like the most edible part of it. It looked like just the center of a fig newton and chances are the Chinese probably cheaped out enough that it might be exactly that with a bunch of preservatives mixed in.
