It does. As mentioned, the New York court never bothered to ask the question of whether his payments to Cohen constituted an official act. So, whether they did or not, SCOTUS have created an appealable issue that could lead to the entire case being thrown out on a technicality

The Supreme Court will find a way to defend their Deep State assets. Same with Biden's family as they'll be deemed agents acting "officially" on behalf of the President. Sure, it'll mean admitting Burisma is the reason why the US is fighting a proxy war in Ukraine, but it was an "official" act, so no one can be prosecuted for it. Biden was "officially" working as vice president when he took those documents for his own personal use, so he can't be prosecuted for that. Obama was officially acting as the president when he ordered drone strikes to kill an American citizen and a wedding.
It's only a victory if the law actually was fair and impartial. We know at this level it isn't. Technically speaking, paying off a hooker and finagling with the books are not official acts, so this ruling wouldn't apply in Trump's New York case. They can twist whatever Biden is doing as official, so he'll get the benefit of full immunity even if he was committing treason. That's why this ruling has the wiggle room that it has.

My concern is that this ruling will allow the Dems to unify.
Friday night the Dems were shattered and brought low by their own hubris. All the talk was centred on Biden and his terrible performance, how the election was probably lost and Trump was just the side note.
But now that focus has radically shifted. No one is talking about how senile Biden is and how he must be replaced. All we are seeing is a repeat of 2020 where the only message is "We have to beat Trump no matter the cost". All eyes are on Trump and no one is talking about senile Joe Biden.
That's a unifying statement that most Dem voters can get behind as we saw in 2020. It's no longer about old Joe, he can sit in the basement and be forgotten as the MSM and pundits go to war to stop "Trump from DESTROYING OUR DEMOCRACY!!!!". Again, just like in 2020. That's a rallying cry the Left is familiar with and can stand behind. TRUMP WILL DESTROY AMERICA!!111!. VOTE BLUE NO MATTER WHO!!2!!!
This ruling could be the very thing that saves Biden's 2024 campaign. Already you can see no one talking about the debate and everyone talking about stopping Trump. This was a gift to the Dems and I wish the SCotUS had held off a week to allow the debate to sink in for the average American.

What gets me is losing Chevron is infinitely more damaging to the leftist agenda medium-long term than reminding the lower courts that yes, Presidential Immunity is a thing stop being fucking retards. But Presidential Immunity fucks them over in the short to medium term since it's pretty obvious at least subconsciously the left was thinking lawfare would stop Trump before November, and that hope is now gone. Sotomayor having a retarded chimpout on paper over it -- which gave the left their talking points -- didn't help.
I have to wonder if @Sweeter and Savoury is right and this is just the Cognitive Dissonance on the left from watching that debate on Thursday and Biden shattering their worldview which is now causing them to completely break down. Or is it just too much losing, too fast?

It's been a few hours , and Biden will still be a brainless zombie tommorow and every day until nov 5. I agree they are probably happy to have something else remove some of the pressure, but in a few days at most it'll have passed. I think that Chevron is just to esoteric a ruling for the average Twatter to understand the ramifications of. Hell a lot of lawyers are going to spend a great deal of time trying to work out exactly how it will apply and to what so you can excuse the empty brains for not understanding and their talking heads never told them what to think or to get mad about it so they just kind of....skipped past it.
But this new ruling...oh boy that's right up their alley and we can see all the joy they are getting out if it. Because lets not pretend that what we're seeing right now isn't joy. The Left needs a cause, they need to be the under-dog fight the big powers. That's the mental image they hold and they need to feel fulfilled like anyone else.
So now they have exactly what they want/need. Something they can attack, something they can cry and wail and gnash their teeth at. Something to show just how much a part of the in-group they are. Something they can "safely" let out all that rage and hate on.
It should be very telling that the Left is only really happy when they have someone/something to hate on and attack.
I imagine being a Lefty must be a very emotionally empty life. You can't have any idea or opinions that your in group doesn't support because the purity tests are constant and unrelenting. You are constantly on guard as your in group is hungry for hate victims to vent on and one misstep, one wrong tweet and that victim will be you. Everyone around you is always looking for the next victim to attack to boost up their own position in the social hierarchy but you can never know who for sure because someone higher on the social pyramid can always eat you for lunch instead. So much of your life is based around immutable characteristics that you cannot achieve. If you have the misfortune to be a hetero white male you have to constantly be pleading for forgiveness just for existing and do/say/support everyone higher up then you 100% correctly 100% of the time let alone daring to speak up if you have an idea or suggestion. At anytime you could be destroyed, your life ruined for any reason and you could do nothing more then beg forgiveness as your betters stomp on your face with their boots.
No wonder they want to drag the rest of the world down with them. It be like living in Hell and looking up at Heaven everyday...that would drive any man insane over long enough time frames.

I love how these idiots will screech about the right becoming radicalized and not stop to think what their side might be doing to cause it. They think they're completely blameless despite the fact that they support the side that arguably committed some election fuckery (3am "absentee ballot" drops in key states all for their guy), calling the entirety of the right Nazis and Fascists and advocating violence against them (Punch a Nazi), supporting movements populated by self serving assholes and radicals who commit constant violence and property damage (BLM, Antifa), have supported violent uprisings that attempted to seize parts of the United States (CHAZ/CHOP), attempted to force their morality into schools and expose kids to a literal gay agenda by stuffing perverted drag queens down their throats, coddled criminals and created laws to protect them and further encourage their criminality (making shoplifting/theft hard as hell to prosecute, making it nearly illegal to defend yourself or others), ignored evidence of their candidate and his family's blatant corruption, been the source of nearly all of the political violence in this country for decades (with the FBI admitting they don't track left wing political violence these days, fancy that!), openly flouted established immigration laws in an attempt to force a demographic shift that they believe will favor them politically, supported trannies in womens spaces and screamed at anyone who brings up the ways this hurts actual women (Remember that tranny at the spa exposing himself to a little girl that the left called a hoax but wasn't?), supported the use of bullshit lawfare against their political opposition, and are now openly calling for a president to use the Army to kill his political opponent.

can someone help me out? the way i read it isn't that trump 'won his immunity' but that the courts need to decide if what he did constitutes an official act. if it does, he's immune. if not, the charges stand.

DoJ (and the DC courts) asserted that there is no protection for official acts. Trump asked SCOTUS to confirm that there was. SCOTUS did so, and showed two tiers of presidential immunity, core immunity (absolute), and a lesser immunity for non-core constitutional actions that are nevertheless official acts.
Trump, therefore, won by getting what he asked for. Most of what he was charged for was also official acts.
The court also gave him an absolute immunity for his charges relating to his talks with DoJ
Any way you look at it, it's a big win for Trump

You are looking at a very extreme and narrow-minded population. The debate is still very much in the news cycle. Some more editorials about Biden stepping down came out today.
In an ideal world Sotomayor would be impeached. Many of her dissents have been inflammatory and wildly outside of mainstream legal thought (there is impartial commentary about this; not just 'lol Democrat stupid'), and she is likely the mole that has been leaking shit (or has the mole on her staff). The other two liberal justices, Kagan and Jackson, have been reasonably impartial in my opinion (Kagan has even written some good opinions/dissents; we still have a lot to see from Jackson).
