Ferals I hunt all year round though and they're the only animals I shoot that I don't eat, I won't take a deer unless I'm keeping the meat, even trophy bucks.
Yeah, it's still pretty common to kill boar and not eat the meat, simply because any boar alive is a net negative to every creature in the environment, except the boar. Hunters around here can make a good side hustle contracting their hunting skills out to local farmers. Some of the boars are so big, you need rifles and rounds that are borderline made for big game hunting (.308 rifle at minimum or .300 blackout if you're using an AR-15; but don't expect to recover the kill), which not every farmer has. However, if you bag one that has been castrated, it's edible and it's a lot of meat. I've had sausages made from a hunted male castrated boar and it was really good.

Yeah they get big

I use an FN FAL in 7.62 NATO ( .308 ) or an X95 in .300 BLK. I've used my Savage 110 in .338 Lapua Magnum but its a long range round and they're expensive even though I reload. Not worth it for pest control regularly, which is what Hog Hunts mostly are.

You figure 12 gauge buckshot / lead slugs would work?
I'm no hunting expert at all. But yeah, with that size, I'd expect any small / intermediate round would basically get shrugged off and bounce off bones unless you absolutely peppered them or hit something crazy vital.
Yeah 12 gauge 00 or 000 is fine. I know people who take Hogs with that. Slugs will stop anything in North America, shit you can take Grizzly with 12 gauge slugs, theres not much a slug won't put down.

X95 is a fairly short barreled rifle usually, right? I wouldn't have ever thought of using that for hunting hogs. I know people shit on bullpups, but it's a cool looking carbine. I don't deer or boar hunt, mostly just turkey hunt (it was my dad's favorite game to hunt, so it's what I learned). I usually use my Mossberg 835 10 gauge and I have an Flight King 12 gauge that was my grandfather's. Cheap shotgun, but it has some sentimental value to me. I have a Remington 700 in .308 (they might all be .308) that was my father's, but I've never actually used it.

There's a reason why back in the old days you had to charge them with a big fuckoff spear on horseback just to take 'em out.

Mines an SBR its 14" without the can. .300 BLK has quite a kick though, its more than enough. Its not really for hunting though its more a range gun.
And yeah Bullpups normally have a shitty trigger which is why people don't like them but with the Geissele trigger pack its crisp, almost as good as my AR.
I normally use the FAL for Hogs or I've got a Marlin in 45-70, the X95 is good with a can at night though if you're lamping them. You can adjust the gas block for subs or supersonic if you take the can off with a quick adjust, its got two positions.
Mossbergs are great shotguns. I wouldn't mind a 10 gauge I only have 12 gauge and a .410.

Is that stuff safe to eat?
Feral Boar doesn't taste too good tbh.
Wild Hog can be risky. As long as you clean it properly and inspect the meat, and most importantly cook it thoroughly its ok.
Wild hog is especially risky due to the trichinosis risk but like all wild game it should be OK if cooked well enough.
Ninja'd but yeah basically this.
If you're hunting for food you're better with rabbit (or turkey or deer if its in season) normally Hog hunts are pest control because they knock down fencing and destroy crops and they're generally a nuisance.

That said, sharing that too openly is a sick part, playing with enjoyment of killing is pandoras box, and people should tread lightly there : I fully believe everyone's capable of enjoying hurting, but relishing too much in it makes sociopaths.
Me, a Night Lords fan: Yes!

I’ve taken my Garand out with a bayonet for hogs a few times at a friend’s place. It was mostly a meme and mostly worried about how of those guys can be aggressive. Ran one through with the bayonet just to finish off the poor thing quickly to end its suffering (M2 ball is also more than $1 a round)

Beating raccoons to death in a shed with a hammer is cruel and unusual punishment for the raccoons. Replace the raccoons with Rekieta however, and now it becomes a morally righteous punishment for Rekieta.
I’m pretty sure most posters here won’t mind if that happening to ‘coons… oh, sorry, I was was thinking of the other coons.

What happened to armadillo #3+?
I saw signs, after I caught the first two, that at least one was still rooting around in my mulch beds. I had the trap out for a few weeks and never caught him. After awhile the fresh signs of him were no longer showing up. So I assumed he moved on and I filled in the burrow.

This. They're only edible if they've been castrated, but as with any wild game, you have to inspect the meat and make sure to cook it properly. I wouldn't recommend eating medium (145F) chops or tenderloins of feral hog. However, grind them up, make sausages with them using a pink curing salt (e.g. Prague Powder #1) and do a smoke cure on them, they're completely safe to eat.

Armadillo's are cool, they get a pass. You can't have the weird little dudes digging under your shit though. I get why you moved them. They're fucking goofy things.
