Is there an actual threat for Roe v. Wade or the gay marriage decision to be overturned? I mean Bush and his whole conservative house did jack shit for Roe V. Wade but still
Unlikely. Trump supports gay marriage and in today's climate, it would be unwise to repeal as even a lot of the (younger) Republicans support it. And as you said, Roe v Wade is unlikely because the Republicans have hated it since it was passed but even when they owed the President and Congress, it still never got repealed.

Not salt but one foreign Goon sums it up fairly well.

Supreme Court justices have high respect for earlier court decisions. If it has been decided it pretty much always stays, even when they disagree. Dissents are saved for that reason, to give voice to disagreement. There would have to be something entirely new for a decision that is outside existing ones, or the old one would have to be seriously egregious.

Even the most "activist" justice takes this extremely seriously. I disgree with some decisions, just like everyone else, but I have massive respect for the justices in this and very little in their history actually disappoints. Maybe FDR's stacked court because it kind of threw away these principles. Probably should include the power grab of the Warren court, but they built what we have today.

People just have zero understanding of how that court works.

Kind of feel bad for her. Her husband made Bill Clinton look like a devoted husband, and the collapse of her personal life brought out more signs of email carelessness. She allowed herself to be convinced that she was the squire of a shining knight destined to be king. She's thoroughly broken. :heart-empty::heart-empty::heart-empty:

Hey, if Bush administration didn't bother, why would Trump?

'Sides, as mentioned earlier, he supports LGBT (something that seems to fly over the heads of the Hillary supporters). So I can't say I see it happening.

Saved for posterity, here's Lena Dunham's meltdown. It's got enough smug to power San Francisco for years.

At home I got in the shower and began to cry even harder. My boyfriend, who had already wept, watched me as I mumbled incoherently, clutching myself. "It wasn't supposed to go this way. It was supposed to be her job. She worked her whole life for the job. It's her job."

A lot of people have been talking about how we need to try to understand how this happened and what's going on in the minds of the people who voted for Donald Trump. Maybe. Maybe. But maybe let's leave that to the strategists, to the men in offices who need to run the numbers. It should not be the job of women, of people of color, of queer and trans Americans, to understand who does not consider them human and why, just as it's not the job of the abused to understand their abuser. It's quite enough work to know about and bear the hatred of so many. It's quite enough work to go on living.

“Let’s let the men do the hard work, we don't need to fight for our own rights.”
