Crime Neil Gaiman Accused of Sexual Assault, Author Denies Allegations

Acclaimed author Neil Gaiman is facing multiple allegations of sexual assault, making him the subject of a police complaint in New Zealand. Gaiman has offered a response as well, refuting the accusations.

Per Tortoise Media, two women have accused Gaiman of sexual assault while in consensual relationships with the author. The allegations go back two decades, but they were first reported on in Tortoise's podcast Master: the allegations against Neil Gaiman, which was released on Wednesday. The women describe allegations of "rough and degrading sex," alleging that these instances were not always consensual.

One of the two accusers, a 23-year-old woman named Scarlett, claims she was sexually assaulted in February 2022 just hours after first meeting Gaiman. According to Scarlett, the assault happened in a bath at Gaiman's New Zealand home where she was hired to work as a nanny for his child. Gaiman says that the two merely "cuddled" and "made out" that day, adding that a three-week sexual relationship ensued, but was entirely consensual. Scarlett insists that Gaiman was "rough and degrading," and reportedly, messages, notes, and accounts from friends support her allegations.

Another accuser, identifying herself as K, says she was an 18-year-old fan when she first met Gaiman at a book signing in Sarasota, Florida, in 2003. K claims that she began a romantic relationship with Gaiman after she turned 20, resulting in engaging in rough sex that she "neither wanted nor enjoyed." It's alleged that one particular incident saw Gaimain forcefully penetrating K despite her objections.

Gaiman has denied this claim as well. The Sandman author maintains that his relationship with K was never unlawful and that he's "disturbed" to be accused of such behavior. According to Gaiman, K's allegations stem from "regret" over the relationship she had when it was over. He also attributed Scarlett's allegations to a condition she has that's associated with false memories, but the Tortoise report noted that this isn't supported by the accuser's medical records.

Additionally, Gaiman has strongly denied all allegations of non-consensual sex at any time with the women accusing him of sexual assault. He also claimed that New Zealand police ignored his offer for assistance with one woman's complaint in 2022, suggesting that shows a lack of substance in the investigation. New Zealand officers have responded by saying they made a "number of attempts to speak to key people as part of this investigation and those efforts remain ongoing." It was added that there are "a number of factors to take into consideration with this case, including location of all parties.”

Gaiman has long been one of pop culture's most revered authors, bringing to life acclaimed stories like The Sandman, Good Omens, and American Gods. Just recently, Netflix has been promoting the upcoming second season of The Sandman, which is based on Gaiman's source material; he also executive produces the series.

Honestly while Gaiman was not on the top of my "insufferable and terminally overhyped geek culture retards I cant wait to get outed as sex predators for my own amusement" list (currently being topped by Wil Wheaton followed by Alan Moore) I cannot deny feeling that little bit jollier with the thought I may never have to hear him mentioned again

The future society part of Miracle Man made me actually angry.
Alan Moore's Miracleman holds my personal record from "Hey this is my kind of thing" to "I'm now pissed off and probably in a list somewhere" in the least amount of pages. Neil Gaiman's run was just embarrassing and I have a higher tolerance threshold for his bullshit than most people.

Life During Wartime took a hard turn down at the end, but it was rather middling at best.

I hate Neil Gaiman because before the Sandman came out people who read comic books hid it because it was lame

then because of the Death character or something all of a sudden it became socially acceptable to be a fucking dork

I also like comic books, fantasy novels, and board games but I have the social awareness to keep this to myself as something embarrassing. I am glad that the person who is the most responsible for changing the previous situation where everyone kept that shit to themselves or faced vicious mockery and ostracism is having a very bad time and I hope it gets worse for him.

I also hope every single man I dated from the period 1991 to 1999 when this change was happening has the same bad things happen to them as well because they stopped hiding what dorks they were! maybe this is related to not being able to keep your hands off your nanny!

I disagree with this take rather intensely. I don't know how someone could read, say, American Gods or Anansi Boys and come away with that impression. Maybe in the short stories I guess.

American Gods was the one I tried to read. I don't know, I thought it was just me but a lot of people seem to have the same impression.
She's not really hiding anything. She's still performing the "chop your cock off!" song as of last year
and the "I'll blackmail you with a false rape accusation so you'll have sex with me"(lol) song
also the back alley abortion song
She has at least three distinct rape joke songs, an upbeat school shooter hymn and enough "mental illness so quirky" songs to fill an album. Her back catalog is one of the most cancellable if ever seen, but I guess she's too obscure for anyone to bother.

She's been through a few rounds of cancellation attempts. She mostly reacts either by ignoring them or defending herself, which is why they haven't worked. In most cases cancellation only works if you start apologizing and trying to get the mob to forgive you, which is when they smell blood in the water. That's the reason they mostly go after women, who are more likely to grovel and apologize. It's also why being obscure won't protect you: the mob likes weaker targets (I would bet money that next to none of the people who have called out Amanda Palmer in the past are going after Neil Gaiman now, he's too powerful and valuable to their cause)

IIRC she responded to troon fans trying to cancel her for the "sex changes" song by releasing a statement essentially calling them retards who didn't understand the lyrics. Which isn't even a cope, because the song is clearly using sex-change language to talk about an abortion, as a quick look at the lyrics will show. But wokescolds are not known for their subtlety.

Yeah, I'm older and kids today disturb me with how they will openly discuss the most nerdiest details of some superhero lore or sit right out on a train reading X-men or something. In my day, comics reading was something done in private and if you wanted to talk about it you did it in your bedroom with the door shut. Now people fucking stream that stuff online.

Girls in particular used to be more responsible than boys when it came to nerdy stuff but now if anything they're actually worse. I can go to YouTube and see innumerable women reviewing the latest comics or just sitting there with Marvel toys out on the shelf behind them.

I hadn't thought about it before but I think you're right - Neil Gaiman is one of the big factors behind this. Though I don't agree that it wouldn't have happened without him. Big companies have really pushed this on people and normalised this stuff because they make big money out of it and don't care about the social consequences.

Shadow visits Iceland in the epilogue and Icelandic Odin is there. Hasidic God is also alluded to and there's a Muslim Jinn that's gay. It's American Gods, the main religion of America is Christianity so it makes sense that there's different versions of Jesus.
I did not know that thank you.

Gaiman, however, is still a hack and his writing is still badm.

there were no big companies involved when this change happened. the big companies got involved when it was clear this was a moneymaker, just like a generation earlier with rocknroll.

corporations cannot be blamed! America did this to itself.

Well well can't say I'm surprised by this coming out against him only surprised that he didn't get thrown under the bus by the Entertainment industry sooner because he didn't add more Sheboons to the adaptation of Sandman. Tldr Get fucked Gaiman.

I mean, Neil Gaiman is English. So technically England did this to you.

Sorry about that.

Next time someone allegedly accuse George RR Martin of sexual assault not because anything is personally done just because of the
the sad puppies incident where there was a loophole in the voting system for the Hugo awards so everyone on the right just voted for all the right wingers

>in both cases, they happened to already be in a consensual physical relationship at the time
>in both cases their relationship continued afterwards

So they came back for more, willingly.

You know, rape is regarded with as much horror and treated as severely as it is, because the image that word paints involves a traumatising and monstrous encounter that is violent enough to leave a person scarred for life. But both of them were just so unfazed, so indifferent, so apathetic that they couldn't be assed to say anything until years later.

Do you need to take your meds? That made zero sense.

Or it's just them being kinky and they got a rape fetish. Women fantasize about fucked up things and then claim rape to cover up their fetishes.
