What makes the plan Bad wasn't a low chance of success, but rather the risk. Basic setup if you are planning something is to have some basic damage mitigation in case things don't work out. If they had any post debate it was completely eclipsed by how badly he did.

Also I think the media mutiny has put them in a tailspin. The manufactured consent of the MSM fell apart in real time, and with it any chance of them just saying it was a cold and moving on. If CNN can say Biden should step aside on national TV, preference cascade kicks in and suddenly a lot more politicians and donors are comfortable saying the same things loudly and publicly. After 4 years it gives some of these people a chance to actually say what they feel, not just what they're told to feel.

It gets so bad that flashing lights from cars in the distance of a restaurant window can routinely distract them from the middle of conversations they are having. They will be unable to focus or finish sentences. Bidens not in the endgame but he's right outside in my opinion.
